    2013 Nitro Z-7
    Mercury OptiMax Pro XS 150
21p Tempest Plus (all plugs in)
    Water Pressure 13
    5600 RPM
    No Jack Plate
    3 1/2" BP
    58MPH
5,400 feet above sea level, passenger and 1/2 tank gas tourney load. Just breaking in the boat. Once everything seats correctly I'll get my 56-5700 RPMs and might gain 1-2 mph.

Over all, pretty impressed with speed and performance off the floor. Everything is factory...haven't messed with a thing. Good speed for such a high elevation (I think). I might play with it a little more, but I'm happy with 60mph.

I am getting a new 2012 Z7, but not sure if I need the Pro XS 150 or the regular Optimax 150.
I do not run more that 2 miles on any regular fishing day, so not sure if I need to go with the Pro XS.
Plus not sue if I want the jack plate or not.
    What do you think please.

the pro xs will be better for resale, plus the added perf you get from a pro xs for very little cost is well worth the extra expense. ie: holeshot, top end speed and fuel economy.

the jackplate is definitely your call, they say one is not req'rd on a Z7 w/ 150 but I would put one on just to complete the package, it is alot easier to add on now then to worry about it later, plus with no doubt, it is an added bonus for fine tuning your set up.

Well, i'm getting the 2012 Z7 with the Optimax 150. I am adding the manual jackplate though. But now the question is the 6" or the 8".

Between the 8 and 6" the performance diff would be negligible.

Without sounding too ignorant, can someone please explain the "below pad" dimension methodology? Is it the gearbox spline in relation to the bottom of the hull as per below diagram?

yes. in the diagram where it says "gap" that is your "prop to pad" measurement. distance between the bottom of the pad to the centerline of prop shaft.

Great stats for Nitro set ups , It would help out a bunch if an estimate of the elevation the boat is being run at could be posted also . I'm at 6500' and a big difference in performance.

2014 Nitro Z9 DC Merc 250 Pro XS
    36v Motorguide TM.
    Atlas Plate,
    25p Tempest
    No Power poles

    98-100 degrees both runs.

    Myself:
25g of gas saw 72.5 mph

    2 people, light partner
    45g+ gas , full cooler
    70.0 mph

    5700-5800 rpms

After dual power poles installed, 69+ with 2 people and
    about 25g of gas.

Need to get a prop to pad measurement, I just keep tapping the atlas up till the speed drops. Putting power poles on this week.

Glad you got her in Bryan. I am leaning towards swapping out my manual plate for a hydraulic.

Looking for some information... I came here looking at some set-ups. I purchased a Z-8 w/ Mercury 250 Pro w/ Torque Master Foot. I am only getting 68 to 69 MPH consistently with just me in the boat half tank of fuel and empty live well, 26P Tempest prop w/ all 3 plugs, surely this boat should be faster. Any ideas? My hole shot is ok, a lot of nose rise and seems just a bit sluggish during take off. I do have dual power poles and noticed above that seemingly made a difference on the hole shot. I am willing to make adjustments just do not want to make the wrong ones. Thanks

Give us some numbers? RPMs at WOT, and full trim. Holeshot need some idea of how many RPMs ur turning on holeshot. Also post this in the Nitro section. u will get more responses. I rarely check this thread.
