    Another Z9 Setup Issue

    2013 Z9 with 250 pro xs. Tempest plus 25p. 3.75" below pad.
By myself it hits 70 mph at 5900. Put any gear and one person in and I can't get nose up at all....pretty much just plows water throwing a rooster sky high.
Even by myself it plows water and throws rooster until it gets up to speed at wot and finally lifts bow.
How come I am not getting lift?
Most guys say 3" under pad but won't I lose bow lift going higher? Or am I thinking wrong and I need to raise motor more?

What is your plug / pvs vent situation on the prop?

I would start raising jack plate until you start loosing water pressure or speed..rooster tail should be the height of the motor

I'm interested in some suggestions as well. I have a 2012 same setup and am experiencing similar issue. My rooster tail is over the motor even at 4" ptp

All 3 prop plugs are in. Does removing them help get bow lift?
Also.... does going higher with motor get bow lift? I was under impression neither did??

I would be looking at a different prop or prop work. Has it always done this?

I just bought it so I do not know. Previous owner had motor set really low and I couldn't get over 5600 rpm(way he preferred it)

Plugs are only for holeshot and do not affect WOT

Does raising the motor get more bow lift?

I mean it could, does not hurt to try it. But normally it does not. A tempest should be able run .5 inches higher then where you are at.

All props out of the box are not the same. I bet u could try 3 similar props and get 3 different results.

Has it always been like that or you just bought the boat?

My 2013 Z9 runs great with my Worked 25p Tempest Plus. Carries 2 people and a ton of gear to 69 MPH AT 5750 RPM on my MercMonitor. I run 2 3/4" to 3" below pad. 71.1 by myself. These numbers are with dual Power Poles (yes, it makes a difference).

Find another 25p Tempest to try and/or raise the motor. Water Pressure is key when adjusting motor height.

John and Jeff at DAH Pro-pellers in Burlington, WI do great work. Call them and tell them your concerns. I've had many props done by them over the past 10 years. Never disappointed.

get u a 26 pitch BRAVO 1 XS or 24 PITCH FURY 4 either of these props will solve ur problem. I'm partial to the bravo 1 xs, i own both running these on a 2012 z8 250 pro xs in 27.5 and 25 pitch. bravo is a bit faster

Based on input from here, I ended up with a Tempest 25p as well. (From a Fury 26p.)

I can tell you you'll get better hole shot if you open up the PVS holes. Mine came with three large plugs. Tried pulling 2 and it would TOTALLY blow out trying to come up on plane. Then went back to pulling only 1 and it would blow out coming up on plane if you didn't modulate the throttle.

Swapped them out for 3 small plugs and it comes up fine without even a hint of blowing out. Might need to move back to one medium, or maybe one large because with 2 aboard, live wells full, and a TON of gear onboard (along with the new 10' Blades) she's a bit sluggish coming up. Drain the live wells though and it's back to normal.

As far as max speed, I have no idea what mine is. I've been in the boat twice by myself in over a year. My wife is always with me, and if I go over 60 she gets a bit grumpy.
OTOH, I've ran 64.7 in a light chop, medium rain with both of us (live wells empty, and before the dual 10' Blades, although with a single 8') and while she wasn't complaining, it was a bit scary jumping the chop while not being able to see.

I can say that I highly doubt it'll run 71~72 like some say.

My best running is at 3¼"~3½" PTP fwiw. I've really not gotten any better performance by raising it higher than 3" at all.

Thinking of sending my Fury 26p out to get it worked and try it just for snits-n-giggles. It's in great shape and always was a beast coming out of the hole.

Iancons23- did you ever solve your problem? I have a similar issue but more like what Dixiechicken describes in his response. Thinking of trying the plugs first.
