    Helix 12 Thru hull tgransducer

    Helix 12
Question 1 If I get a thru hull transducer that is not a chirp transducer will I still get sonar readings at high speed?
Question 2 What cable and thru hull transducer do I for both transom and thru hull function?

    1. Humminbird does not have a CHIRP transducer. It chirps the standard transducer that Humminbird has been using for many years.
I assume you mean a SHOOT-THRU transducer that is epoxied inside the hull instead of a thru-hull that takes a 1"+ hole through the hull to have the transducer on the exterior.

    2. The Shoot-thru dual beam transducer is the XP 9 20 without a temp sensor or XP 9 20 T with a remote temps sensor.

    3. You did not state which of the three versions of Helix 12 you will be installing.
There is the Helix 12 CHIRP Sonar GPS, Helix 12 CHIRP DI GPS, and Helix 12 CHIRP SI GPS.
That would determine what exact transducer and if any additional cabling is needed.

OK, the XP 9 20 transducer properly installed in the bilge.

The SI transducer on the transom or jackplate above the hull bottom.

Both transducers connected to the display with the AS SIDB Y cable.

You will get Depth and 2D sonar from the shoot-thru all the time and SI/DI/Temp from the SI transducer all the time. No menu changes needed.

Thanks a lot Wayne. You are a true gem for all Humminbird users.

Wayne is this still the case today with the new GN3 with the new XP 9 HW T?

I am installing a new Helix 12 at console and currently have two transducers for my 999ci HD si. The current in hull is the XP 9 20. Do I need to change to the new XP 9 HW T?

No, the AS SIDB Y cable was discontinued and replaced by the 9 M SIDB Y cable. The new cable has the circuit for Down Imaging that the old one did not have. The MEGA SI transducers have a dedicated Down Imaging piezo.

Your 999 does not have Down Imaging, it has simulated DI VIEWS created by blending the two SI pulses.

Yes you need to change the shoot-thru to the HW model. It does 140-240 kHz CHIRP or High Wide.
    The 20 does 83/200 kHz.

Wayne, can I assume that would be the same thru-hull transducer I would need for a Helix 12 HW MSI GPS G2N “Black Friday” unit?

There is not one for that model that I am aware of, just the one that comes with the unit.
