fingerling pike???????
What part of the country and body of water were you fishing?
we dont have pike around here.
How about a logperch?
Thanks Jyarb i looked it up and i believe you are right but were i caught it at is nothing like what it says were they live at.
attached They live in a variety of habitats. We catch them off the shad wall in the current below Wheeler Dam and people call them "rock rollers". But I used to find them in the stomachs of spots on Smith, which would be similar to Woods.
Shows they are in Alabama. Maybe there too.

This would be Percina caprodes which has a larger range. It is strange what you remember. I had Ichthyology at Auburn over 40 years ago and we had to learn 460 species of fish, species, genus, family, class and order. Had to recognize live and dead specimens. Now I can't remember somebodies name I met 10 minutes ago, but I still know most of those fish.
I guess they get the name logperch from the long slender body and it does have the markings of a yellow perch. Interesting looking fish.
Register it...you might have the state record there.
Don't worry Ma'am....
I'm only here for the Bass.
