    Debate on handgun today....

Few of us having friendly conversation over what was consider to be the best 45 out there. Keep in mind there are a lot of people who will not deny nor argue that the 1911 has been one of the favorites for almost a century now. There are a lot of other handguns out there that could be excellent service/combat handguns (G21 for example).

    but here was the criteria;

    Has to be hammer fire.
Has to have either external safety or capable of decocking for safety.
    10 round capacity or more.
Dual Action capable.....no SAO allowed. Can be LEM or DA/SA.
    And party.....Highly reliable!

    I had 2 choices.....either an HK 45 or the FNX 45.

Others that came up were the USP, P227, CZ95.....I know Ruger made a duty 45 but can't remember the model.
Few of guys are former military and some were law enforcement. They all still liked the 1911 but sometimes they can be finicky or small parts break often enough.

    What's your thoughts?

Don't fence me in, bro (yeah... SA/1911 fan).

Of your choices; hard, but not impossible, to go against the H&K.

The Ruger you're thinking of was probably the P90DC... Workhorse, pretty reliable, but nothing overly special.

1911. The decockers, DA triggers, and whatever else you are adding a just more things to break. I carried one on duty for 22 years, the best ones I have are Les Baers.

Yep....that was it...P90DC....guy that mentioned it said it was discontinued in 2010.....I just looked it up and was produced from 1991 till 2010....that's got to be the one.

A coworker has LEO brother in Wyoming and said he carries a small Ruger on ankle for backup & is a hammer fire as well but a compact.

I said it was simple. Why try to complicate it?

OK, hammer fire only? Get a full custom 1911 OP. Fire it 1000 times and then it may be dependable. Kimber,springfield/etc 1911's? Good luck

You need to take a look at the decockers on Smith & Wessons. Heavy and flawless. Been out for many many years on theirs and never any problems.
