    Question Vertical Motor Play

Yesterday, I noticed when my motor was on the transom saver it has a slight movement ( left and right) when I would move it by hand. It’s not excessive with maybe an inch in both directions. Is this a normal function or should the motor be tight with no movement? I have sea star hydraulic for my steering and the motor is a Yamaha hpdi 250 2006. Thanks! FIY I meant horizontal play in title not vertical

Are all the steering brackets and bolts tight?
Is the play in the steering, or in the midsection bushing?

Check for any fluid leaking from the end caps of the hydraulic steering cylinder. That is a pretty common issue with those. SeaStar makes a kit with replacement caps that have the seals already installed. Most likely what you have going on there.
