    08 Nitro NX750 / 09 Merc 90 2stroke Setup/Prop

I've looked around a lot to try and find similar setups but I am mostly finding 115/135hp setups. Anyone familiar with this boat/motor combo have any advice on optimal setup? My alum. prop is pretty beat up and I'm planning on replacing it soon. From what I have read and with merc's propfinder it sounds like a LaserII or Trophy - I was just wondering if anyone has done any testing and enlighten me on what their findings were for what pitch would be best. I'm a small guy (135lbs) and typically fish solo in this boat because my tourney partner has a Z9. Is there a clear winner in top speed from what you have tested? Anything offer a holeshot so amazing I could sacrifice top speed? (My longest wide open runs are about 5 minutes on the waters I fish) Also wondering if a 6" JP would offer any clear performance gains on a motor this size? Right now I have the stock alum. prop on which is in rough shape and am seeing 42-43mph but a little unsure about the RPM. Looking for any and all advice or even just a link to a setup thread for this combo if I missed it in my search. Thanks all!

You would probably have to switch to hydraulic steering with a jackplate. The steering cable on my old one was already in a bind without any setback. What pitch prop do you have now. 21-22?

I'm actually not sure - the boat is in storage and I didn't check before I put her away because I hadn't decided if I was getting a new prop yet. I've read that this combo comes with a 21p though... And I'm also one of the idiots on here who doesn't know his WOT RPM's.

A plate probably won't help with the 90 hp motor. If it was a 115 I'd put a 6" on it.

Send a PM to Cigarbasser. He used to have the exact same setup and I know he worked on it a bunch. I had one but it was with 115s and a 135.

Thanks for the input! Sounds like I can save some money on the plate and hopefully be able to steal some wisdom from Cigarbasser.

I have a 2000 nx750 with a 90 on it. I run a 22 pitch stainless and fully loaded with 2 people I get 45-46 im around 230 and same as my partner. I put a 6 inch jack plate with no performace added so I took it off. when I bought the boat the motor was all the way down and I raised it up one hole.

Thanks Jdubbs! Sorry I'm resurrecting an older thread here but I've got several solid runs on it this spring. I'm running about 42.8-43mph @6000RPM's. Currently turning a 13x19 aluminum prop that's in rough shape and motor is mounted in the top holes (all the way down). Prop is 6" below pad. I have a 20P stainless being shipped that I got a deal on from the forums here. Plan on moving motor up after I do an 'apples to apples' run with the new prop. Will post updates!
