    Save the old carpet!!!

Save the old carpet as much as possible. If you don't have it for a template you will not be a happy person. I was able to save 90% of the old carpet but the 10% I lost was on the front and it was a real PITA cutting out the new stuff. Be gentle and save what you can!

I would like to find that same boat in a single console. Looks like fun and a lot of work. When you are done, satisfaction guaranteed.

I did a restore on the same boat it was fun and easy the only thing I changed was the way the front compartments hinged I changed them to lift toward the front and put gas struts on them

Great, solid hulls. A buddy had one--built like a tank and would run great. Can't wait to see it finished. Good luck on your restore.

    Thanks for the comments!
Well the boat is finally all striped down. We cut the hole for the new recessed TM foot control an added another seat post holder a little closer to the new recessed pedal.
Wet sanded with 800, 1000 & 1500 you can see the difference it made was huge. Washed it one last time and now it's moving to the garage to start the assembly.
I'm going to final polish with 3M marine compound and finishing and the pro-tek system.
Carpet & padding will be the next step then the new motor arrives!

What did you use to wash your hull with there? I have nearly the same boat. Mines a 96 super pro 200 in the exact color. My whitemail all over the boat is chalky feeling and stains very easy. What did you use to wash your boat to get all the stains off? And do you think that wet sanding and then the protek kit will eliminatell the staining?

Jimmy, I ended up wet sanding the entire boat after trying a few different things with no success. I had terrible yellow water stains on the lower part of the boat you can see in previous pics. I wet sanded with 800, 1000 then 1500 grit sand paper (probably should have went with 1000, 1500, 2000). It was pretty scary seeing all the scratches left behind but as you can see in the pictures the scratches came right out and the difference is pretty dramatic. After the wet sanding I used the pro-tec system and it just wouldn't get all the fine scratches out without to many passes, like I said should have used the 2000 grit and the pro-tec probably would have been fine but I just couldn't stand the thought of sanding the entire boat a 4th time, it's very hard work. I ended up getting the 3M compound as shown in the picture and as you can see it took the scratches right out. I'm just finishing up with the 3m and I will follow up with the complete pro-tec system as shown on the pro-tec website.

20oz carpet, padding and deckmate marine adhesive from bassboatseats.com. Love the padding and adhesive. Carpet I'm not impressed, very thin and freys like crazy with every cut. My 20 year old procraft carpet is twice as thick and I guarantee this 20oz won't last near that long. Shop around before you buy. The carpet is so thin I can rub the backing right off with very little effort. Maybe the 24OZ carpet would be better. 2 gallons of glue and I ran out had to get a quart of contact cement to finish.

Wow, I have replaced the carpet in three different boats. used 20oz carpet on 2 and 24oz on 1 and there adhesive. No problem with the carpet and never went through the entire gallon of adhesive. I would contact the guys at bassboatseats and let them know your issues.

Things are looking great, thanks for the thread.

I'm sure the carpet will be fine it went in really nice it just felt really thin compared to the old carpet I pulled out. I'm sure I used more glue then I needed but I just wanted to make sure it stuck I also did padding which take more glue for sure. Thank you all for the comments! It's been fun but man am I ready for it to be over...

Pad is all finished. Be sure to use a good pair of sharp scissors. I used a heavy duty pair from our kitchen knife set and they worked great.

Carpet on the lids. Have plenty of wood and clamps on hand. I had enough to do all 10 lids at the same time which was nice.

With how bad my top cap looks on my boat and seeing how the finished turned out on yours it's good to know ther is hope in getting my finish back. I just need to be less lazy and put some effort into it.

Good job. The boat looks great.
