    New ‘21 Sportsman 1710

I just picked up my 1710. Everything about it is exactly the way I wanted, color scheme, vinyl floors, 90hp SHO outboard, center rod locker,……wait. The center rod locker has issues. I noticed the problem when I picked it up and pointed it out. The dealer more or less passed on fixing it. So, assuming I would have trouble finding the same boat with same price this year I towed it home, 4 hours away. The issue is with how the sheet metal structure under the locker door was built. It’s about 5/16” too tall, making the hatch higher than the deck when it should be flush. It angles upward towards the stern when closed. I can see that the flange on the bottom of the rod locker was bent at the wrong spot, but apparently it was good enough for QC. G3 won’t tell me if they can fix it under warranty until the dealer inspects it, again. I want it fixed but am not crazy about towing it 4 hours away to let it sit for who knows how long to maybe get fixed. Anyway, I’m a little irritated. Maybe I should of got on the waiting list for a Stinger.

I’m not sure how well these pictures show the issue. Bottom line is it’s functional but obviously not built right. I sent multiple pics to G3 and they wouldn’t even say warranty would cover the fix. If I had a TIG welder I’d cut off the flange, trim the box to correct height then weld the flange back on.

Unfortunately nothing happens without dealers input. Since they are aware of the problem, I'd take it back and let them deal with G3/Yamaha. Sucks, I know, but I'd never left the dealer with it till it was fixed. If the dealer wasn't to keen on making it right, I would have gotten my money back and walked out.

Boats around here are tough to find during normal times. This one checked all the boxes and I didn’t want to wait another year or longer only to pay another 10-15% more. I will most likely tow it to another dealer (still 4 hours away) when fall crappies are done.

I bought a 2018 new and after the first couple of times out, the floor in front of the passenger seat was teeter tottering for some reason. It straighten itself out but when this happened the floor was not level. It has been fine since but we still can figure out why it did this. Talking to G3, they told me I had to go to the dealer. Two dealers didn't help. I hope you have better luck.
