[QUOTE=Roddy;Thed big King was caught on a bass rod with a live pilchard. No wire leader. Lucky, Lucky[/QUOTE]
I have gotten to the point where I no longer use wire for kings in clear water except between the main hook and the trailer if I use one. Instead I use a Mustad long shanked ballyhoo rigging hook. I find I get more bites and only lose slightly more kings due to bite-offs so overall I end up with more in the boat.
Had time to get a little fishing in a couple of hours before the tropical storm of 2013 hit FL. Got the fish up from 200' after a lot of drag taken out by the fish only for him to see the boat and dive right back down where we started from. This was my first time ever offshore -- it's addicting. Fished surf and bays before and the offshore party boat but never had the chance for a real charter until a few weeks ago. Caught out Saltwater fish have amazing strength compared to the wimpy freshwater fish. I think the salt is calling me more than the largemouth are these days -- had already sold the bass boat a few weeks earlier and now have a 21 kenner with a 200 EFI --seems like a bass boat on steroids -- and I don't have to worry about getting mud, fish slime, etc on the carpet
