Registering a boat purchased out of state

What kind of paperwork I need from the seller when buying a boat out of state to get it legal here?

My last two boats were both purchased from private sellers in Alabama. Both times I got a separate notorized bill of sale on each item the boat, motor and trailer along with any signed titles or registrations which the previous owner may have. In my case Alabama did not title or register boat trailers so all I had was the certificate of origin for the trailer.

Get more than one signed original bill of sale. You'll need one for DMV for the trailer and one for LDWF for the boat and motor. They will not accept copies. Found this out for myself.

Do yourself a big favor and Contact Tags and Titles in St. Amant. They handle the whole shooting match for you at a very minimal cost. They handle the DMV stuff, The LDWF stuff and all paperwork involved. They will tell you exactly what you need to make a smooth transaction.

Wildlife and Fisheries is the easy part. I took my paperwork to the min office on Quail Drive, walked out with my boat papers.
