    3 strokes in one swing

Last week I hit a 60 degree wedge fat. the ball came up slow and my club hit it again during my follow through. I told my buddy that it cost me 2 strokes. He thought one swing was one stroke regardless of how many times the ball was struck. He asked the pro about it and was told it was one stroke for the first hit, one stroke for the second hit on the follow through and it's a one stroke penalty. I didn't know about the penalty stroke.

I think the pro is wrong. You should have counted the first strike and a 1 stroke penalty. Not the first strike, second strike AND a 1 stroke penalty.

14-4 Striking the ball more than once:
If a player's club strikes the ball more than once in the course of a stroke, the player must count the stroke and add a penalty stroke, making 2 strokes in all.

Pretty certain that's a 1 stroke penalty total.

Yep, count the first strike and add a one stroke penalty for the second strike. Your "pro" was wrong.
