    Mercury Marine has sent a bulletin to all dealers against the use of ANY brackets added between the motor and the jack plate. The Bulletin warns of the DANGERS of this type of mounting practice and strongly advises against it.

    I agree with this- it's an important SAFETY concern.

    Engine mounting hardware is meant to retain the ENGINE to it's mounting surface (not wedges, spacers, brackets, or rocking/shoving powerpole devices).

    We often see mounting hardware loose (far more often than normal) when other devices are on the engine mounting hardware (or sandwiched between engine and mounting surface).

    This bulletin was issued some time ago (not a "new" thing).
