Longest one-day rides have been 1,300 miles to & from Punta Gorda, Florida from Chicago on a 2007 CVO Road King.
Long distance riding is about comfort more than speed.
Ear plugs to reduce Road Noise Fatigue.
Bike Shorts & baby powder to reduce chaffing.
Quality eye protection for day & night riding.
Simple to read Route Sheet as decision making skills decrease.
Proper eating (ya, not very good at that) but especially hydration.
Frequent gas stops (every 150-200 miles).
    Windshield.

Most of my favorite rides are not measured in miles but by the Time in the Saddle.
And of course my favorite rides are the rides to my boat.

Understand all of those things. I still believe that long distance riding mostly depends on a persons a$$. Some can do it some can't. Some spend thousands of dollars searching for a seat that makes them feel more comfortable. I could make the same time on my stock '08 Road Glide seat as I do on my '14 Ultra seat. I actually like the leg stretch available with the '08 RG seat. My wife actually can out last me now on the new bike. I also had a Sundowner seat on the RG. It didn't do much for either of us and many people rave about how good they are.

About the only things I add on my Harley's are:
    Mustang Super Touring one-piece seat
KlockWerks Windshield high enough to redirect the wind with the Mustang seat that sits you about 2" higher
Highway Foot Pegs that go on the engine guard

Larry's dead on regarding keeping the butt comfortable.
I also have an Air Hawk seat pad that I use sometimes. Key with the Air Hawk is to keep it minimally filled.
One last trick: I have electric Gerber Jacket Liner which can be wired to the bike. On long rides, cold rides, rides where you have been in the sun all day & after the sun goes down and you have a two hour+ ride ahead, a heated jacket liner is like putting on a pair of pajamas. So comfy.
I use this electric jacket liner when muskie fishing in October & November in Canada.
Have not shared this secret with my Canadian fishing buddies as I like them wondering why I can out-fish them. Selfish, I know.
