    Tuffy

Anyone running a Tuffy? Seem to be popular in the upper Great Lakes areas, don't see many on Erie. Thinking about switching to multi-species rig.

i had esox mags and a 1700 osprey, very well built boats i do know like any other boat make sure that it is powered to the max and tuffy went to composite transoms and floors around 2004. if prior to that do a very good inspection of both areas. if you are really looking for someone who has run one post something on muskyfirst or on tuffy boats facebook page

Thanks bassman, looking at a 2004 left-over that's never been in the water. A little fade, cloudiness on the top cap, but I think it can be wet sanded and buffed.

A little cautious about going to one of the musky or walleye forums, don't want someone to zip in and snatch it up while I'm thinking about it.

Ha, ha! That's the catch. It has a 2004 250 FICHT on it right now. I have another thread going on the Evinrude forum about that!

They have a forum on Walleye First, check there...
I'm leaning on my next rig to be a Tuffy 2100 or YarCraft TFX219. Nice boats and they and have been around a long time...

The YarCraft is a sweet rig, way out of my price range, as is a brand new Tuffy for that matter. The thing I like about the Tuffy is that you can get the big hull with a single console. I fish by myself and like lots of room to move around in the boat. I know YarCraft has a well established reputation as an excellently built boat with a great ride. Wasn't as familiar with Tuffy but the more I research, I'm finding that they seem to have a similar reputation. If I can't get the deal done on the Tuffy, maybe I'll be looking at your Fishunter when you put it up for sale.

The walleye/muskie/bass/whitetail/first websites are all owned by the same company, there's a guy that posts a lot on muskie/walleye first that is or was the sales manager at Tuffy--so it's both a good place to get info, but also it has a definite bias as a result of that and unpopular opinions often get edited, so don't use it as the sole source of info. Look like great boats to me, but the company is so locally focused that even after actively looking for close to a year I have never seen a tuffy boat...around here they are like unicorns, it's questionable whether they even exist. You might have better luck in Ohio.

K-ach.. I rode in a Tuffy 2100 and loved it... I did miss out a great deal on 2014 with a 250 proxs on it as I waiting too long to make a decision whether to sell my rig or not.. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my boat.. but the larger front deck and layout of a 21fter would be sweet.
Most are found around Northern Illinois, Wis, Minn, and Michigan. I bought my rig from a guy in Ohio, so i know what traveling far to test drive and then return to buy is like. Check CL in Green Bay, Madison and Milwaukee WI, and then Minneapolis or southern Minn. And of course the Classifieds on Walleye first or Walleye central. Good luck..

Good info on the websites MacIntosh. I'm sure that like any other brand there have been individuals who were dissatisfied with the boat or the company. Unicorns, lol, they seem to be scarce around here as well, as are the YarCrafts. I did find a post on facebook last night with a guy running a Tuffy 1890 Osprey out of the ramp I use on Erie. Stated it was his last time out for the season. If I'm still looking next season I'll have to try to contact him and see if I can get a ride.

I'm in the same boat, (pun intended), Bowhunter. Love my Champion, It fits in my garage, it's plenty big enough for me to fish out of by myself, and for a bass boat, the ride is very good. That being said, it is a bass boat and I'm fishing Lake Erie exclusively. I've been feeling the itch to chase some walleyes and steelhead the last couple of seasons as well. It's a tough choice, the best solution I've come up with is to win the lottery, keep my 183 and buy a new walleye boat.

I have an 2010 1890, I had 07 1890 before. It is a solid boat, rides well, its a dry boat and fast. Fishes well also.

Surprised I did not see this thread till now. I have spent a lot time researching boats over the last year and my search has led me to a Tuffy X-190. Tuffy has a very good reputation in the midwest. From everything I have read, they are rock solid boats that give years of use. I have sat in several and was very impressed with the quality. They don't have all the bells and whistles so their starting price is less than comparable Rangers and Yarcraft boats. Personally, I think they have some of the best big water designs for the bass fisherman. The X-190, 1890, and 1760 are great designs for guys wanting a better big water boat than a traditional bass boat yet still have a big front deck. I can't really give you any feedback on the 1990 but I'm getting close to ordering a Tuffy so that is how I feel about the manufacturer. Good luck.

Didn't order one yet. Leaning towards the 150 4-stroke.

Gotcha, I drove one with a 150 Opti and scooted along pretty good mid 50's. Nice boat BTW

I late to this one but I've been looking hard at the x190. I'm not ready to trade up just yet but I. Sure looking at it as my next boat. Seems like the perfect mix of bass and walleye boat for me.
