With a digital trolling motor, is there any reason I should not wire a digital volt meter gauge across the TM plug?

If the voltmeter will handle the voltage of the trolling motor, and knowing the voltmeter will provide a draw on the battery and possibly run the battery down over time, you will be OK.

Yes, those are understood, Thanks John.
The DC voltmeter reading will of course not be very accurate during the moment the digital TM is drawing pulsed current from the batteries, but no problem reading battery voltages other times.
Would include a small mom. contact switch...... I use a mom. DPDT allowing one digital voltmeter to monitor 2 trolling motor batteries drawing power only when taking a reading.
