The biggest differences is crispness in images. Your still going to see the same data. All the SI shots I will be posting are from the HELIX 9 SI will be with Compact SI Transducer that came with the unit for testing. Don't have that card with me this week left in the unit at the lake. But I will be posting several screen captures I have taken while in testing most have been the 360 on the HELIX 9 SI because i use that the most. But I will get you some next week.

I agree it's a great screen config for si

Either way a decent upgrade of the core units. It's not for me but I'm sure it'll be a big seller for them.

Hopefully they can get a 12 inch built soon so we can see some chirp shots. Please let us know if you see any. I tried to text bill but never got an answer.
Sounds like you need an ONIX it has more square display.

800 and 900 series have had similar rectangular screens since 2005, One of the features I've really liked was the shape. Great for Sonar Equipment and I've caught a ton of fish veritcal with those units on Table Rock and many of the guides at Table Rock use the 800/900 Series still today and catch fish everyday using them. You don't need full screen in 100' because your not catching bass that deep normally. Set the Bottom Range wot where your targeting and you can maximize the screen for 2D and not have to look past the target area. Normally Thermocline is limiting the depth of fish. Say Thermocline is at 40' set unit max depth to 50' instead of 100' and you've doubled your pixels available to show fish data. Cool thing with wide screen you can do this and have more room for more mapping or another sonar option running like DI or 360. 360 is the bomb for vertical fishing...when the school moves you know exactly where and how far and which direction to move to get back in them.

Ready for some of the Cool New Stuff. How about more Color Pallet Choices for Imaging Software. I did not tweak the sensitivity from the "Old Blue" my favorite color but this will give you a view of some of the new choices for Humminbird HELIX owners. You can see which ones are hotter and will need sensitivity to be tweaked down and some start softer and will need sensitivity tweaked up.

Actually 12 is nice when you adjust the sensitivity correctly.

Not one of the 22 icons on the Helix12SI page says "WiFi" when you hover over it.
BT is INDEED a wireless transmission protocol.
No need to introduce confusion to a product when the product web page is Simply, Clearly, Better and concise in what is specified.

    Bluetooth Remote and Dongle

    Bluetooth Remote
Take wireless control of your Humminbird. Our all-new remote lets you mark waypoints on the fly, zoom in and out, adjust sonar sensitivity and toggle through your favorite custom views. Each key has a short press and long press function, enabling you to customize the remote’s capabilities to reflect your fishing style. For instance, a long press of the Mark button can be programmed to power your unit on or off, deploy your 360 Imaging transducer or even create an i-Pilot Link Spot-Lock. Everything’s visible and controllable from anywhere on the boat, so you don’t have to stop fishing to control your Humminbird.

    Wireless Dongle
The remote comes with this wireless dongle, which plugs into the back of your fishfinder to receive the remote’s signal.

There are all kinds of Wireless Products like TV & DVD Remotes, Car Remotes to start and unlock the doors, GoPro even has wireless remotes, heck iPilot and iPilot LINK are wireless, CoPilot too. None of these are WiFi they are Wireless similar to RC-1 is Wireless using Bluetooth Frequency.

Doug, I am asking because I'm interested both in portable and kayak usage. No room for normal size batteries. I just wonder how they gonna consume power comparing to core units with the same screen size...

HELIX 9 SI = 1 Amp (Specs at the Bottom) Humminbird | HELIX 9 SI GPS
    HELIX 10 DI = 1.2 Amp Humminbird | HELIX 10 DI GPS
HELIX 12 DI CHIRP = 1.75 Amp Humminbird | HELIX 12 CHIRP DI GPS

Sounds like you need the ONIX if you need a taller Screen, Touch, Awesome DI. Your missing a lot of coverage and directions they can swim. I know the guides at Table Rock use 360 to keep their clients on fish. THey make a living fishing not recreational angling or tournament angler...they don't catch they don't get paid. They use 360 in conjunction with Humminbird 2D sonar to keep their customers on fish. Vertical Fishing like you and I do on deep clear impoundments is a very, very limited market. Probably 5 to maximum 10% of the anglers buying units primarily vertical fish. Manufacturers are building to meet the masses or "80% Club" if you can satisfy 80% of your buyers the product is a success. Cool thing Humminbird is suiting more anglers because they offer both a Wide Screen in the HELX and a Square Screen in the ONIX. You got a choice with Humminbird.

I have not personally done it YET. But from the looks the HELIX 9 & 10 will fit my Skeeter FX Dash. I don't indash mount electronics...not what I like. But when I get back to the boat from my real job I will look just for you. Don't have a 12 so I can't answer that.
