Well to all the experts coming here, lets pose a question. What is the BEST cheapest CHIRP unit and TD?? Separate not packaged example: HB Helix 9, TD h1234, etc

So I'm thinking about updating my 1198's. Purchased a helix10 sonar/gps last week and it arrived today. Unit looks great but ,my question is... Should I go w/the helix12 for the wider screen, if I have the extra coin, or stay w/the 10's? Is there any difference in pixelation or resolution? Thanks

The Helix 12 series has a higher pixel density display, and CHIRP 2D sonar.

    BIGGER is better.

Tried reading through all of this but couldn't find my answer.

What Shoot Thru Hull transducer is best to hook up to a Helix 9 to get the high speed readings? Going to epoxy it into my boat but was looking at the humminbird site and none said they were Helix Compatible.

The Humminbird XP-9-20 transducer / Part # 710164-1 is the one you need. You will also need the AS SIDB Y cable / Part # 720055-1. The Humminbird marketing material is not up to date on their site. The Helix line uses basically the same accessories as the core units..... Brian

Another question. I started installing my Helix tonight (everything but the transducer since I am waiting for the HD one) and I noticed I didn't get a hole cover in the box for covering up the wires when I put a hole in the fiberglass and under the top cap. What is everyone using for that?

I ordered a pack of 1" computer desk grommets in black which should make it look like a clean install. Will have some extras if anyone wants some.

I have purchased about a dozen fish finders(3 different brands) none provided any kind of wire grommet. You can get various types from anyone who sells boat accessories The will be UV protected to last for years. Bob

    Couple of questions
currently I have a 999 at the console linked to a 859 at the bow. I am wanting to add another graph at the console. Either 1199, helix 10 or 12. Do the DI dedicated transducers have better images or just need to know how to read how the unit translates the SI image? Any issues with linking the 8, 9 and Helix? Can I or should I consider DI helix and leave the SI transducer for the 9 at the transom and not have any issues with the images or having each unit selected to different transducers?

The DI from a dedicated transducer will be better than the blended DI.

There should be not problems connecting the 3 units with the Ethernet switch.

I attempted what you are trying to do and didn't have any luck. I put a Helix 12 SI and Helix 10 DI at the console so that I could have dedicated SI and dedicated DI. I did not want the blended DI personally. You can get around the crosstalk on 2D by selecting the SI unit or DI unit for the 2D source on both units but if you try to use both the SI and DI transducers at the same time you will get crosstalk. I was under the assumption that I could run SI on 455 kHz and DI on 800 kHz to prevent crosstalk but it didn't work. It seems that Humminbird transducers output both 455/800 at the same time just like they do 83/200. Was pretty bummed about it to be honest. If you don't care about the dedicated DI it works great because you can put anything you want on any screen you want.

Networking question here. My buddy is looking to buy a Helix 9 Sonar/GPS and a Helix 10 SI. He would like to have the 9 at the console and the 10 on the bow. The question is, does it work to have the HDSI transducer with XP-9-20 transducer running into AS SIDB Y cable into the Helix 9 Sonar/GPS? Does it work to run the SI into a non-side imaging unit as long as there is a SI unit in the network? Or does he need to run the HDSI directly into the 10SI? Thanks!

To have Side Imaging, a Side Imaging transducer has to be connected to a Side Imaging model unless there is a 360 involved.

The Sonar GPS unit will display Side Imaging from the Side Imaging unit via Ethernet.

The shoot-thru and HDSI with Y cable has to be connected to the Helix 10 SI GPS.
