It's just a fun way to play golf. You bet on each hole like you do a poker hand. You play with "Chips" and its up to you what the buy in is for. Lets say everyone buys in for $10 and you have a foursome. We pay $30 for first and $10 to the runner up. Here's how a typical hole would go. We will give hte player names of A B C and D

All players start with 50,000 chips

1st hole Par 4 - All players ante 500 chips
    All players Tee off.
    Betting Round 1 begins
A is in the fairway but a long way out - he checks
B is in the rough so he checks
C is in the fairway and in good position he bets 500 chips
D is also in the fairway in position A and he raises to 1500 chips
    A Folds
    B calls
    C call
All players hit their second shot
B is on the green 25 feet - but sees C and D inside him so he checks
C is 10 feet so but A is 6 feet so he checks.
    D (at 6 feet) bets 3500
    B Folds
    C Calls

Player C Two puts for par
Player D makes the 6 footer for birdie and wins the pot.

NOTE: If player D missed the 6 footer Players C and D would split the pot. It is not one tie all tie. Just like poker those who tie split the pot!

NOTE 2: You only bet after the 1st and 2nd shots
NOTE 3: On Par 3's you bet before the 1st shot and after the 1st shot.

It really is a lot of fun. Especially in inclimate weather or during a slow round.

It is very hard to calculate manually and or with actual chips. Out of necessity, I wrote a DROID app that is available on Amazon Apps for any Droid it's called ULTIMATE POKER STYLE GOLF .. does not need a connection or collect any data. It is completely configurable with players names, starting chip count, ante amounts for each hole. etc.. It works well and makes the game a lot easier to play.

Interesting now that our weather has been in the high 40's low 50's on the weekends now I want to play as much as I can. Played every other weekend since I started this thread.
Played last weekend, hopefully playing tomorrow and probably next weekend if it doesn't rain. Never played this late in the season.
Last year by this time I was freezing my balls off, yes the golf ones also.

Played again today. 70* here also. Beautiful day.
Only bad thing about today was the greens were aerated and sandy. Thats usually a Sept/Oct thing around here to get the winter ready. Don't know why they waited until this past Monday to do it.
    Maybe they know something?

probably didn't have the bucks to do it earlier. Golf courses are suffering. What happens if you don't aerate the greens?

I was able to get out Saturday with my buddy, shot a 87. This is the first time shooting under 90 on a course that wasn't a 9 hole course.

Greens need aerating to get oxygen down to the roots. The deep roots suffer due to compaction due to people walking on the green but more so from the green mowers.

This course we played isn't suffering. Semi private course and peak times during summer are $85.

60 degrees and sun! 18 holes of scramble today. We had 17 guys play today. Front nine was played on frozen ground, back nine played soft. But I will take it on January 14th.

Got out for 9 holes on Friday. Only time I played in January was when I was in Florida.
Took some effort on certain tee boxes to get a tee in the ground. In the fairways I was replacing divots back on frozen dirt!
