need help replacing the fuel sender on 2001 206

Hey, guys I have the seats out and don't see any way to access the fuel sender. has anyone done this on an 01 206? The newer models have a removable plate on deck behind the seats but mine doesn't have one. Please, any help is very appreciated...thanks Hopefully I added the picture correctly

What is behind the carpet behind the center seat? Mine has a small access there, but you'd be hard pressed getting the sending unit out.

There isn't anything behind there. I have taken the middle seat out and pulled the piece of carpet up and there isn't a hole or anything there.

Does anyone have any contacts of the guys that worked and the old Champion plant before it became Stratos?

My best guess would be to try and get in touch with Kelly Power. Someone here has his number and he's a local in the Branson/Table Rock area.

thanks for the info. I posted another inquiry for kelly. I am a champ fan but this is hard to believe there wasn't an easy way to replace the fuel sender in the design.

    Re: (rchunt)

Just wanted to tell everyone that I appreciate the help. I talked to several of the guys that were recommened and they did indeed remember my particular model year boat. The bad part is that there was an oversight in the design and not a way to change the fuel sender without cutting a hole in the back deck or removing the top cap, so I guess I will probably just live with the guage reading 1/4 tank

    Re: (rchunt)

The sad thing is, my 2001 196 looks exactly like yours does when the seats are out. I was told by a number of people to locate some screws around the outer edges, but have never found a single screw. Seems like the whole seat area is part of the top cap. I want to replace the fuel line, but can't get to the sender area. Hope I never have a sender issue...

You could always cut an access then build a carpeted cover. Depending on how much effort you want to put into it, you could even make it flush. That could also give you access to the fuel and vent lines. I assume you have totally eliminated the gauge?

    Re: (Mark Wendler)

I wouldn't give up. If it's behind the middle seat on the rear deck (just guessing) I don't think it'd be a problem to find a hatch and build out some fiberglass lips, match the carpet and have it look factory.

Heck, it's fiberglass afterall (playdough or lego's for adults), it can be reinforced and molded to look completely natural.

Many folks have installed recessed TM pedals, etc. I don't see too much of a difference??

How about an access hatch from West Marine. They have a variety of them. Just an idea.

Re: need help replacing the fuel sender on 2001 206 (Tx Champ)

I assume it is the sender because I tested the guage per the instructions from the forum. The Mt. Home guys that I talked to said it was basically a design flaw and replacement of the fuel sender was not considered when they redesigned the boat and moved the gas tank forward. They said in the old days if someone had problems with the tank/sender they just built them a new boat and cut the old one up. It was cheaper that way. The recommend using acetone to break down the glue, pull the carpet up and cut a hole. I'm just afraid the carpet will not match anymore and plus have a seem. If I had access to a fabrication shop an aluminum plate would look good with "Champ" inscribed.

You could also get some carbon fiber and have IGs make you a really neat ChampioN decal for it...
