    Re: (Luke)

Even though the boat is slow with this 25 p tempest the thing fly 's out of the hole comes on plane in about 1sec and handles really really good and smooth . I would just like to see about 60 .. I fish in small tourneys in the delta and it is a must to be able to get out in a good time .. So I will get a 23 tempest and try it but if it doesn't work I might light a match..

If that doesn't work, see your mechanic!!!

    Re: (Lea)

Well I bought 2 props a 23 tempest plus and a 25 tempest plus at 3.25" below pad the 25 is smooth handling run 5100rpm at 61gps full load 2 men full tank gas all my gear holeshot is fantastic runs about 12 - 15 lbs pressure ..the 23 at 3.25" below pad with nothing changed runs 5800 rpm at 54 gps and the pressures changes if I trim to high it will drop to about 8 -10 lbs at wot.. So I'm thinking of throwing the 23 in the delta and maybe raising the motor to 3" below pad with the 25 p ... Any thoughts

When testing the 23, drop to 3.5" below pad. Keep testing with both at different heights. 5100 seems low rpms for that motor. 5800 may be a tad high. Do you have a manual for the motor? I do not know its optimum rpm range.

Should be 5300-5600. If my meomory serves me correctly. I have had a Mercury Mechanic tell me that you are safe turning up to 5900 with that motor even though it is outside of the recommended range.

Depends on whether the props have been worked or not. I've been in a situation where I thought my tach was off. Nope, just had a prop that had been worked and all kinds of messed up.

Re: Help champion 181 is slow (Gitzit1179)

I get 62 out of mine with the Trophy 24 and no plate with full gear and 25 gals of gas, although that is speedo.Maybe more like 55 or so on GPS,still fast enough for me.

hi all, i bought a 98 181 last year has a 150 efi merc turning a 23p tempest. I've read that this prop is the ideal set up for this boat my prop to pad is roughly 3.5" and i am only getting 56-58 at 5200 rpm wont turn greater then 5200 rpm, threw on a 21 tempest and got 5600 rpm but no speed increase only got 55-56.these speeds and rpm readings are at full throttle and a tournament load. everything I've read is this merc should be turning the 23p around 56-5800 rpm. i haven't had the motor checked by a mechanic but i haven't had any issues with this and the motor runs great. just trying to figure out why I'm only getting 5200 rpm with the 23p, id like to hit the 60mph range people say this boat and motor are capable of. any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.
