Shoot thru hull transducer mounting and composition of my hull.

I have a 1995 186 that I am going to put a LCX 38C on. I am wanting to do a shoot through hull transducer mount and was wondering if my hull was solid fiberglass or if it has a pocket of wood or foam in between 2 layers of fiberglass. Just need to know if I can epoxy it on as is of if I am going to have to dig the cavity to mount. Thanks.

If it was originally rigged with sonar on the consol you probably already have a transducer in the bilge area that will need removing ,,but will show you where to put a new one!

So are yall saying it is solid fiberglass, no foam filled cavity between 2 layers of glass. Thanks.

I owned a 1996 186 that had the puck epoxied in the bilge area, Never had any problems, Would suggest putting the puck where you want it and adding a little water to the bilge and putting it in the water before epoxing it down tho.

Use fiberglass resin or SLOW cure epoxy, fast cure epoxies cure too quick and trap air bubbles, which will certainly affect your sonar signal.

Thanks everyone for you input. Looks like I have a project for the weekend. Sucks that there is nothing but 100+ degree weather in the forecast.
