    2009 22' Bay Champ - Specs Needed

Anyone have the full brochure specs on a 2009 22' Bay Champ?

Interested in knowing a few thing including the length on trailer, width on trailer would be real good but I don't think that is usually listed. Also want to know what the max HP rating is.

    thx

    Re: 2009 22' Bay Champ - Specs Needed (jbabin76)

Sadly, the 2009 brochure is not very descriptive. It shows length as 22', beam as 102" and does not give length or width on trailer. Max hp is 250 and fuel capacity is 90 gals. That's it.

Hopefully, an owner will be along to help. If not, another best bet would be to contact a dealer.....or...

...When PE bought us, Ranger and Stratos, they took one of our Champion Bay Boats and put Ranger logos on it. Not sure if it was the 22 or not, but you might contact the customer service reps I show at the top of this forum. They should know if it was the 22 Bay.

Thanks Lea. I believe this boat has been re-badged as the Bahia model for Ranger. They seem to have dropped the HP rating to 150 max. That may be because they are calling this boat their economical or budget rig.

    I could be wrong though.

Ridiculous to put a 150 max rating on a 22' bay boat....Especially when the info of 250, etc is still available to anyone who is interested.

What made you inquire? Are you wanting one?

I'll be getting a 22' bay type boat before too long. The 22' bay champ is under consideration. There is a good one for sale out there right now, but I'm not quite ready.

If I was stuck fishing Galveston Bay, I would be the owner of a 22 for sure...

Careful...if you ever run one, you won't want to live without it. It just shames any 22' hull I've ever been in for total performance.

    Re: (pmgoffjr)

What HP did you or have you run on the 22'? The one I was eyeing has a yamaha 2-stroke 150 saltwater engine. I was thinking 200HP min, but I've been in a 24' Kenner with a 150 that worked.

I've only run them with 225-250's. 150???? That's a lot of boat, little bit of rubber band...

That was my thoughts as well.... Of course, get the rig for the right price and a person could sell the 150 and repower.

    Re: (jbabin76)

Did you run them with mercs or yammie's?? Any difference?

Also, what years did you run. Looks like the hull may have changed from early to mid 2000's verses late 2000 year models. The later 2000 year models don't seem to have strakes up to the keel like in the pic below (2009 model)

Have you run one of these?

The 2008 models had more of a bass boat hull...

I was a dealer...I ran all manners of motors (except zukes and johnrudes) I never rigged a 22' with a 150 though, so don't know what it would do.

It's a major undertaking to change a mold, and not aware of any differences in the 22 from year to year.

    Re: (pmgoffjr)

Thanks Pat. I really need to see a picture of the first 22' bay boats to see if they are the same as the last "Champion" model 22'.

Anyone have a brochure picture from 2001-2003?

I also like the 1999-2001 21' bay champs, but a little harder to find in good condition. I've also seen pictures of transom rot on that particular model so I'm a little leary of it. Around the bankruptcy years, some models were affected.

    Re: (jbabin76)

Pretty sure they made two 22'ers the SeaChamp and the BayChamp. The SeaChamp had a more "Euro" design at the transom and I think it also had jump seats back there. I drove a 21' BayChamp at the NC rally a few years ago, it had a Hammer F150 on the back of it. With 3 onboard it ran in the low to mid 40's. Not a speed demon but rode well in snotty water. Wind was blowing in the mid 20's that day and it did a good job.

    Re: (jbabin76)

'03 brochure shows 21 Bay, 24 Bay, and 22 Tunnel. '01 brochure shows 21 Bay, 2000 Bay and 22 Tunnel. There is no 2002 brochure. The hulls on these look like your top photo, Joel.

In '09, the There are 22 Bay, 24 Bay, 220 Bay, 200 Bay and 22 Sea. The 24 Bay, 22 Bay and 22 Sea all appear to be like your bottom photo, while the 200 and 220 Bay hulls are like your top photo.

Have not checked brochures for '04-'08, but should be similar. Some of these rigs started as the Back Country models.

    Maybe this will help...
The "Sea" champs were actually not champs at all...they were the old stratos/hydrasport molds, good boats just different.

The 22' came tunnel or not in '04 to whenever...that's what the picture is.

21 bay champ is a very cool hull, it's a little lacking in interior design, but an amazing hull. Spent some time on a trip to Venice in one, and it never failed to perform.

    Confused yet?

    Re: (Lea)

Thanks... these last two post are clearing things up. Looks like the boat I'm looking at is the 220 bay hull, which is now the Ranger Bahia. On the console it says "two twenty". So that matches and makes sense.

Looks like right now there are no 22 Bay models on the used boat market, and that could be the better hull, more simliar to the 21 and 24. Of course that could be why there are none for sale...

Definately not interested in the Sea Champ models. The 24' is a little too big for my taste as well, trying to get dual use out of the next rig.

Looks like Al needs to start BayBoat Central.... be sure and cut me a royalty check every month!!!

You see a bay champ pop up from time to time there.

    http://2coolfishing.com/ttmbfo...51365

I would also look hard in Louisiana, more bay champs there than anywhere else put together...
