If your working without an OMC repair manual, you are a brave soul.
Rod bolt and caps must be installed in a special jig fixture or with a tedious process of aligning them. Threads must be lubed with outboard lube. Did you keep the rod caps with original rod and oriented properly?
rod bolts-30-32 ft lbs
head bolts 20-22 ft lbs
main bearing 25-30 ft lbs
flange 40-50 inch lbs
