    Mama wants a different boat...

She keeps seeing all these "cruiser" type boats and asking, "Can you fish out of one like that one... or that one..." you know what I mean, right? And the old "if mama aint happy, aint nobody happy" sort of applies here. So, do I even have any options here? She likes things like the swim step on back, a decent ladder of course, windshield to get out of the wind, a cushiony back deck (i hate those snap on ones) etc. I don't think they make anything close to what she likes (Cobalt, Criscraft,) that I'd be able to comfortably fish out of... any advice? Remember, I'm not getting divorced (the second income is too nice!!! )

Darin, sounds like a Champion fish and ski is in oder here. Or you could just put a wind shield on yours like mine.

Own both, my buddy's Cobalt is sick. It is one really nice boat. If you do go the classy runabout route. The Cobalt 222WSS is one bad float. It does decent for wakeboarding too. The sound system configurations available are awesome. Plus you can get a year old one for about 55K with the 270 or 300hp options new.

Re: Mama wants a different boat... (LAChamp)

I looked into the windshield on mine and it would really take some fabricating. I have a 190 and the top cap is about 2 inches lower. It would take some doing to make one work, I think.

Are there many used fish n skis like that 214? I thought I read there weren't many. I also couldn't figure out how to get the look from above so I could see the layout, etc.

Thanks bb... looks nice. I'm figuring those will be way out of my price range... which hey, if we can't get rid of the already paid for fishunter, oh well, right?

Out of your price range? Maybe not so fast whippersnapper! Its a buyer market now not a sellers. You will be shocked on offers that are being accepted.

    Never say never.

If money is the issue: BPS has some of those N boats on the floor at Gurnee. I know how much you like those.

Yeah, that's a good point about a buyer's market. Awfully thoughtful to bring up the Nitro's a BPS... Was that you on last comic standing!!

    Re: (bassin butch)

Another very good point. My first boat, a 14' mirrocraft (boat, motor and trailer was $800) and I re-did it with a floor and the works. She came out with me all the time during the day! Next was a old silver and red 16' lund and she hated it and never went out with me... so she found me a '96 Pro V tiller that was "pretty" (blue and tan and very sharp)... so I got that one and she started coming out again. I used it for 7 seasons and sold it for $100 less than I paid for it... and now have the Fishunter. She loves to come out in this one and enjoys watching my kid and I catch fish. She's out there a lot with us... a lot. I think she just wants to be a little more comfortable (that's why I started looking for a ladder a few weeks ago). I was thinking of a 621????

Show her some pix of the Champ SX series prior to the 214SX. Should be plenty in the pix thread. Built on bass hull, but with the F&S topcap. Plenty of forward deck for fishing, plenty of family room in the cockpit. Walk thru windshield, etc. It would be my choice if I wanted to go that F&S route!!!

I'm not sure I've seen what you two are talking about. I have seen the 214 sx in '09's and 10's, but nothing older... My absolute max is going to be in the 20-25K range if I can get a good return on the fishunter... .

    Re: (Derwood)

Darin, you know my take on the "R" boats... as we've had plenty of discussions regarding them. But, for you scenario, take a look at the Champ 214sx and if you must look at the Ranger, I would guide you towards their Reata series.. Its more "her".

Take a look as see what she says?

As you know, my Fishunter is a fully functional multi purpose machine since I have my pop in back seat... and the Wife loves that feature.. WE tube and ski our brains out during the day, and in 5 minutes, the seat is out and I'm fully functional for night fishing for the "eyes".

    Good luck with your "situation"

    Darin,
Just before the economic bust really hit at the end of '08, I shopped for a 21SX and found a barely used '03 w/225 Evinrude @ $20k out the door. I love that boat as it's essentially a 206 w/a different cap. It rides 5 in comfort, handles big water like a Champ, has plenty of fishing room fore & aft and a ski tow pole that interchanges w/the rear fishing seat. The ladder is the only thing your wife won't like, but that's pretty easy to replace. Don't miss the opportunity if you can find one.

Get on the phone for this pickle.. Right now..

300 horses will be a little too much for the wife on the tube.. but it would be fun to try it... LOL
