Not trying to stir the pot but....

I found this on the Nitro board and thought it was completely ridiculous considering I've owned a Nitro...

"I ran with a really good friend of mine the other day... He went out Friday with me... He said his Phoenix rode like complete garbage compared to my under designed no R&D Nitro."

    Oh well...I guess it's subjective...

I don't know which model Nitro he has but it must ride much better than the Z9 I rode in.

At a Federation tournament yesterday, one of our members had the new Z21 Nitro----I don't know how it rides, looks good and he said it was nice and "rides better" meaning the older Z boats didn't ride as good.
    I don't know, but I'm glad I am in a Phoenix.

I believe the driver has just as much to do with how well a boat rides as the design. So many factors go into the "ride" of a boat and the design is just one.

Have you ever heard a Nitro running acrosss a rough lake? Slap, slap slap slap slap slap slap slap. It just sounds rough.

Have you ever heard a 919 Phoenix run across a rough lake?

Me neither, and I was driving. Can't remember any extra noise. icon_scratch.gif

Funny, I just sold a 921 to a guy who traded in his Z9. He was amazed at the difference in how good the Phoenix rode.

The Nitro's I have rode in do ride good but I dont think they are smoother than a Phoenix. It is a totally different ride and something he isnt used to yet I do know it doesnt take the driver input to drive a Nitro as it does the Birds and that could be what he is talking about.

A driver can take the best hull and make it appear to be the worst brand ever. Also take a bad hull and make it seem somewhat nice. Driver imput makes a huge difference.

What I learned from some of the "Pro Team" guys when I was shopping......
Basically 3 rough water boats (bass boats) on the market.....
    Bird
    Cat
    Legend
ALL will ride rough when trimmed fully out. These boats are designed to be ran (in rough water) with the nose DOWN....let it cut through. If you are over 1/4 trim....you have went too far and the ALL ride rough.
My personal experience over the past 2 years.....
    1. Never rode in a Legend (can't see paying twice amount for what I get in an equal Bird or Cat)
2 Test drove and have ridden in numerous Cats. FACT....Cat will outrun the Bird....on a "good day".
3 Bird handles ALL rough water better than the Cat....FACT...and will out run the Cat on a "bad day".

I fish Toledo Bend for the most part. It rarely...has a "good day" (almost glass). I've had to tell Cat owners I was riding with to slow down....I was taking a beating the old back couldn't stand....very uncomfortable. ALL that have ridden with me in my 721 admit....the Bird rides better...100%....because of the way I was taught to drive it and the way the Bird "cuts" through.
White caps = nose down = 60mph & smooth ride in a Bird....when everybody else is struggling/getting wet at 45mph.
    Cat is a close 2nd.

Gent with a newer Ranger was bragging last week about the "Ranger ride".....after a little discussion and chest pounding, I invited him to meet me on the water when it was "bad" and the deal was, he had to stay up with me on a run, side by side.....and NOT get wet! I even said I'd let him fall in behind me...but he had to keep up with me. I'd pick a day when we had 4' caps rolling down the lake!
    He declined
I then invited him to take a test ride in any Bird and let me know what he thought. Haven't heard from him again.
Fished out of a partner's Nitro several years.....great "platform" once sitting still.....but rough water ride was terrible.
Several friends have Skeeter......"slap" city....and you get wet!
    Owned a Ranger....and got wet!
    Xpress...got wet and beat up!
But....on a really calm glass surface day (yeah...ain't many)....they all ride great!

I chose the Bird after 1 test ride.....because I can't control the weather on fishing days!
