I have a early 2010 SHO 225 with about 55 hours on it. I have some squeeling recently and I wonder if it has the power head starting to go out? I don't have any oil level rising. I do have the recall letter from Yamaha that I have until December of 2018 to have the powerhead replaced. My question is should I run it until a month before it runs out and then get the powerhead replaced or do it soon? Thx for the help!

That squealing is very likely the driveshaft - happens after long runs at WOT? Not a big deal just need to grease the driveshaft - I do it once a year.

How do you grease the drive shaft.

You have to drop the lower unit. Grease the upper end of the shaft just below the splines. I do mine twice a year and the squealing always comes back after couple of months. Not a big deal just annoying.

So will the squealing hurt anything if I don't take the time to grease the shaft? Will I have premature wear on the driveshaft or something in there if not greased? Thanks

No - I have never heard of a single issue. As Rich said its just enough a squeak to be annoying. Yamaha makes a pretty expensive heavy duty grease that my shop uses which seems to last longer than other marine grease.
