Is the deck layout the same between a 1988 186 and a 1992 186 the same? I am looking to replace the carpet with a kit for the 92 champion. I'm concerned with the space between the consoles and rod lockers.

There were no 186s in 1988....or in 1992. Back then, there were 184s, 176s, etc...
Check your paper work and let me know what you have. I have most brochures...
The only difference that I can think of is that the 89 had a front deck livewell and the 92 did not.they also changed the shape of the consoles.I dont think it would work.
The deck layout was different betwen 89 and 92 on every model I've seen. The console shape and size was not. I think the 180 came out sometime in 92, and it was completely different.
The 89's had one narrow rod box on the port side, and a raised box on the starboard side. By 92, all models over 18' (and maybe under 18') had 2 wider rod boxes, and the deck was flat everywhere. I sold my 1988 184DC because of the front deck layout.
You should be able to buy 20' of marine carpet and do the install. I wouldn't know who sells a "kit", but I would be wary of that.
I've never seen a front livewell on any 184 after '87.

All models for 1988 had fore and aft livewells. I do not have the 92 brochure, but in 90 and 91, the Super Champs all had fore and aft wells, also.
I agree with Artie...a kit might not be the best idea.
where did you find a 92 carpet kit? If its or a 201 I might be interested if theres more.

My 89 201 has dual rear livewells.
Thanks, Fred...I don't have an 89 brochure. In 90-91 some had dual rear and some had fore and aft. Of course, I am going by the brochures only. Could be other variations ...
It was on the options list some had front/rear wells. My front storage compartment could have been a Livewell but became a storage compartment with the dual rear option.
I've seen the patterns on a couple of the marine carpet sites, and no way would I buy a kit. If I keep my 201, new carpet is probably in its future.
How is your project coming Fred??
I've done a couple of boats recarpeting. The worst part is getting all the old glue off. Buy the carpet in a roll long enought to do your boat. make sure the piece is wide enough the just order lenth enough to do whole thing. Don't be afraid to purchase a little extra. pieces you take off make good patterns for new pieces
BBC has had carpet sponsors in the past

Artie pointed out that his 1988 also has dual real livewells. For some reason, the 88 brochure does not show pictures of any models with the dual rear wells, however, when I read the options page in the back of the brochure, there they were! Glad Artie contacted me...
