Unhappy Minn Kota MAXXUM 65 problem

Originally I had a bow mount 55 maxxum trolling motor till I accidentally damaged it. A marine dealer converted my boat to a 24 volt trolling motor using a used 65 lb with a variable speed foot control but he used my 55 lb mount. I don’t know the serial number to use for parts.
Now that trolling motor is giving me trouble.
It's intermittantly not working. Once I let it drop down in the mount and it worked for a short bit then it quit again And wouldn’t power up even with the momentary switch full on. then it took a spell of working normally till it shortly quit again. Sometime later it would only power up using full on position. I Don’t know if repair is feasible and cost effective or should I get a new variable speed maxxum 70 lb or maxxum 80 lb.

    its on a ranger 175VS
trolling motor skeg is in the front not by the prop.

Loosen one of the screws behind the prop and see if it is wet or rusty.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

As Catfan said, remove the prop and one of the bolts and look for signs of water intrusion. Call me if I can help.

you nailed it . screw is wet just starting to form slight surface rust.

(also the used 24 volt was installed labor day weekend 2014.)
