    HD vs Compact transducer

I apologize if I missed this being posted before. Is there any images floating around (possibly of the same area) that shows the difference in image quality between the two transducers.

Haven't seen any posted that show side by side of the same area. May be hard to find.

I'm just curious how much of a difference it makes. I'm sure that is a better transducer. Just wondering how much better.

I did a test using the two different transducers with one of my 1198's yesterday.

Disregard the stuff in the water column, that was due to the way I had the Compact SI mounted for the test.
Just pay attention to the bottom and trees/stumps. I tried to scan the same place each time which is a couple of trees in a creek channel going the same speed. The unit settings were the same.

Wow...I was really curious how much of a difference it could really make, but wow. Looks like a transducer upgrade will be in my future.

Great Job Wayne ! (As usual)

I really think Humminbird should offer the HDSI transducer as a option / different model / on all Helix (compact Si) units.

Wayne, could you tell us what settings you had both the images set on? Would a different setting have made the Compact SI a bit clearer? I've been playing with the settings on my Helix 7 to try to get cleaner picture. Thanks.

Don't remember the settings other than the Chart Speed was the same as the GPS speed. They were the same with both transducers and the ONLY difference in the image quality is the transducer.
You cannot offset the lack of image quality with any settings.

I don't pay any attention to the setting numbers, I go by the way the screen looks to adjust settings and I change a lot depending on the depth and bottom hardness.

Ok. Those are good pics and I'm still trying to figure out the best settings for the Helix 7. I know it depends on the water as much as the settings. Last time out the lake was pretty stirred up.

    Hey everyone, BBC newbie.

I've engaged hummingbird support and you're able to trade in the compact transducer that comes with the helix 5/7 for the HDSI one for an upgrade charge of 85$. This only applies to unopened brand new compact transducers.

Impressive. Actually, both. However, HDSI just a lot more.
