    Busted my prop. What now?

My son and I were out this past Sunday night fishing on lake Allatoona in GA. On the way back to the landing, I hit a shallow area at about 30 MPH and 4000 - 4500 RPM. The motor kicked up and we were beached in about 6 inches of Water. After pushing the boat out, we made it back to the landing; which we were less than 200 yards from. The OEM prop was damaged but not the hull or paint and more importantly neither one of us.

I called a local dealer and was quoted $160 for a new aluminum prop installed and the old prop sent of for repair. I was told they would return this prop to me so I would have a second prop in the event this happens again.... I pray not.

This all sounds a little too good to be true. I wanted to get others opinions on the prop repair.

I've seen worse that were repaired. Any good prop shop can make it look new again. Having a spare is a good idea.

$160 is a pretty fair price for the prop and getting the old one repaired.

Great. The boat is on her way now to get the new prop. We have great weather the rest of this week. It will be good to have another prop in the boat. I was really fortunate the damage was not worse. The skeg did its job.

A friend of mine and I are going to Lake Martin in Alabama again tomorrow and will try to catch some more of those big spots. Hope we both catch some good fish this week.

+1. This is very important. Prop shaft runout should be checked just as a precaution. Better safe than sorry to make sure the shaft was not bent. Since it was an aluminum prop I will bet its fine tho. $160 for a new prop and repairing this one is a good deal IMO.

That's nothing. Have it retooled and get a spare. I've destroyed many an aluminum prop with the last boat. At least 2-3 a year. Never damaged the prop shaft or lower unit. Don't forget to get a hub for the new prop

Got it back from my dealer. Everything is fine. $120 was the final price for the new prop. They are sending the busted one out tomorrow. I was very surprised at the new price.

Allatoona is bad in the winter time. Right now we are almost 13' below full pool. I would say we have lots of sand bards showing now but in GA we grow rocks in red clay. So most of the sand bars are had a cement.
