My winter project is seeing progress...

I purchased this 55' 210 in north Alabama a month ago. After sanding all the paint off I removed all the interior and glass, I then tackled the floor. I've braced the car for the floor support removal, then loaded up with a half dozen 3" cut off wheels and went to work. Progress is good with a couple of weekends and few week nights of work. By the end of Thanksgiving weekend, I expect I'll have the new floor back welded in. Then I'll pull the body from its frame and start on the frame work of sandblasting, adding spring frame pockets and 3" rear lowering springs in the rear with 2" drop front spindles in the front. All four corners will have disc brakes.

Looked like this when I brought it home... While the floor pans needed replaced, the body panels are really solid.

    8 hours of sanding.....

    Definitely needs a floor...

Cut one side out at a time to eliminate body flex....

Added a new inner and outer rocker...

    These are my new pans.....

Looks like a great project, Richard. I'm dyed-in-the-wool Blue Oval, but not appreciating those Shoebox Chevy's would be un-American.

Richard bought a 55 Chevy with a set of wheels on it worth more than the car. (I'm never that lucky)

You gonna butt weld or overlap?

We just finished a 69 Firebird for my neighbors wife. We did the one piece floor, from firewall thru trunk. Also quarters and full rockers, front fenders and inners. It's a big job but worth it in the end. Getting ready to start on an 83' Chevy short bed stepside for myself. Pro street look, with either a 6.0 or 6.2 ls engine. Looks good Richard!

The wheels are SOLD!... to Danny for the next LS engine and T56 transmission that show up in his shop . As for welding, the panels have a flange and a lap joint. At the lap joint I mig weld by "spotting in". The Rockers are within reach of the jaws to actually spot weld. I'll still spot, "mig" weld in a few places. I'll seam seal all of the joints with body caulk.

I'm looking for a LS1 with a T56 manual 6 speed. I'll keep it fuel injected, add a little bump stick and head work. Not looking to race this car, although me having an addiction to HP, need a little go power . If the price was right I would consider a newer version of the LS1 --- LS2, LS3 etc. Danny was supposed to be checking on an LS1 that he keeps tripping over . Actually, all's good because if I had it I would be tripping over it. Unless I can buy that LS1 and 6 speed for 10 Benjamin's .

Danny how is the truck coming along?????

The 55 is looking good Richard! That's a nice old car to start with, and will make a sweet ride. Be careful dealing with Danny,he'll have you putting a Cummins in it.
