My buddy has a 202 with a new to him 250Pro XS 2 stroke. Prior engine was a 225 running a trophy 25. What size prop should he be running? TIA

4 stroke? Probably a 23" pitch Tempest if so.

A 26 or 27 tempest .
25-26" pitch Tempest depending on how it's loaded 25" pitch Fury might work good as well.
Tempest 25 or 26
What year boat?
Seems like the 25 or 26 Tempest is the easy button for these boats. I just picked up a 2011 202 elite (198 hull) and ordered a 26p tempest for it earlier. I'm running a 225 pro xs and I've been researching on it for days now. The boat cams with a 23p tempest. Not sure if that's how it came from the factory or not. Looking forward to seeing what the 26p can do. I'm expecting to have to send it in to Mark.
I'm wrapping up switching all of my electronics and other gear over this week. I plan to go get some seat time on Saturday in her. I too thought the same thing but there seem to be plenty of people who praise the 26 tempest on a 198 or 202 elite. If it's a dog, I'll call Mark and see if he thinks working it over will help or if I should punt and try something different. I don't think I'll lose any money on the deal so at this point it's an experiment. The weather has forced me to sit out the past couple weekends and I've only been in it when I test drove it. It was a rocket out of the hole but only topped out around 62 of so on the gauge. I was only working the trim and didn't mess with the jackplate so there's probably a couple mph left. Also, that wasn't confirmed with GPS so it could be low or high. It did feel to be lacking on top end but had more than enough on the bottom end. The boat was also empty so we'll just have to see whatnshe likes. A 23p on a 225 two stroke just seems low to me. Again, I'm not sure if the original owner put that on of if it came like that.

I’m running a 24 tempest on my 198, best I get now is 69mph (67-68 is more the average though), but I added a spotlock TM and multiple graphs on the bow. Weight on the front hurts these boats. Definitely load the boat down before doing too much prop testing, the more that goes into to front lockers, will definitely make a difference. You might turn that 26”, but you might also have Mark make it a 25”. I’ll be interested in your results.
Were you hitting the rev limiter with the 23?
The 26 or 27 tempest or a similar fury will be the one.
What year 202? There was a 90 inch beam and 95 inch beam hulls, two different set ups.

Just recently had to repower my 97' Champion 202 elite from a 97' Yamaha 200 Pro V that crapped a piston to 2015 Mercury 250 Pro XS 2 stroke and had to test numerous props to get it to run and handle correctly. The best prop I found was a 25p Mercury Tempest Plus.
I tried several props from Mercury including 24 and 25 pitch 4 blade Trophy Plus, 26 and 27 pitch Tempest Plus, and a Solis Scorpion 27 pitch. After all these didn't perform very well, even with numerous adjustments up/down to 8" inch jackplate, the 25 Tempest Plus was the answer to get it to run correctly!
I run a 27 tempest plus on my 97 202 with 250XS optimax. I’ve run just about everything and this runs the best. Next favorite is 27 bravo xs. 8 inch rapid jack. I’ve run at least 11 props on this combo. I can turn the 27 with 3 in the boat and water in live wells.
27’sounds right. If it only turns a 25 may need to get motor checked .
