Hey guys, I've heard that some fishermen use Mountain Dew in order to stop a fish from bleeding, any truth to this ?

It works
I have seen it done and it worked. Guess the citrus/acid seals up the wound like quick clot.
If you want a pig, flip a jig!!!
I use 7UP and Sprite.

Sprite for me been doing it a long time.
100% works. Anything with citric acid, but Mtn Dew happened to be right by the register so that's what I got. Keep a bottle in one of the back compartments just for bleeders. TIP: Hold the fish over the gunnel and dump in the Mtn Dew. Had a co-angler make a huge mess dumping it all over the back deck.

Do you pour it down their mouth if they are bleeding in the gills or a similar area?
Lake Greenwood!!
Sprite works great
my brother says mt dew prevents pregnancy..........something about reducing sprem potency??................my niece says it didn't work!
I believe any type of citrus drink works. Catch and release will also stop bleeding.
Gatorade and coke works as well...
Yea cant you just put them back in the water and they will stop bleeding?
Learn something new everyday, thanks guys! I will give this a try next time I have this happen. As for putting them back in the water, I wouldn't say it helps, but it certainly wouldn't hurt.
Jbruno, all putting back in lake does rinse blood off, they still bleed out and die
Cornmeal and hot grease will also cure this..

Tongue hooked fish is a goner. Fry him up and drink the Sprite yourself
Has anyone tried a pipete to drawn the Mountain Dew up then squirt it on the bleed that way you don't make a mess in the boat
Seen it work many times . But also seen it not work
