Motorguide SW convert short shaft to long shaft?

I have a kayak version of the Motorguide Verimax transom mount trolling motor that has an 18" shaft. V45SW HT 18
I'd like to replace the short shaft with a long one [50"] to use on my pontoon boat. I see that the SS shafts are available, but don't see part number for a wire harness.

I suppose I could solder in extensions to the wires from the head to the motor, heat shrink etc. but don't know if this is recommended?

Is this a doable modification, and if so could someone share or point me to the procedure.

I found a thread on replacing a bent shaft on a bow mount version, which seems it would be more complicated due to the two piece shaft and gears and such.

Any tips welcome.
