    Jay Smith Racing Engines

Jay is the 2.5 Merc master. He is a busy guy, but still occasionally drops by the BBC boards to visit.

Tell ya what i would do cuz I've done it and glad I did at the time. Find a good rebuild 200 Promax or fuel injected 200 power head drop on that was rebuilt with Promax stock parts and the oil injection removed along with some of the other crap and have at it. It will be fuel efficient and give you a thrill driving it.

Running a 23P Tempest Plus, I honestly don't know my prop to pad as the previous owner had the jackplate welded so it would never move (why I have no idea). So I have never bothered to measure it.

Thank you for your reply. I was just curious as I have the same engine on my PII. I am running the same prop as you with a 10" jack plate. The plate came on the boat, I personally don't think I would have gone with one that big. What speeds are you seeing?

In this picture I was running 62 mph. thats with a one man tournament load. When I add another person all their gear and fill the livewells I slow down to about 55 mph and my RPMs drop to like 5200 RPM. Setback on my jackplate is either 5 or 6 inches.

My holeshot is really impressive with this prop. really little bow lift and pops right up.

and thanks for the compliment! Its old but Gold!
