    2014 Rt188 rod locker

I was at Cabellas to check out the rt188. I brought my 8'6" rod to see how it would fit in the locker. The rod didn't make it in the whole way. It was about 6" shy of getting in the whole way. I figured the rod maker didn't account for the extra long handle. Put the tape measure to the rod and it was exactly 8'6".

Has anyone had issues with getting a 8'6" rod in the locker?

I believe the rod lockers on the RT188 are designed to hold an 8 foot rod, not a 8'6" rod.

That is correct. My locker holds 8 footers, not 8'6". Those will have to stay on the deck or passenger rod ramp.

8'6" is a prettt long fishing rod. My Tracker will hold 8 footers but the rods are all the way at the tip of the bow.

Exactly! Why would they claim a 8'6" rod would fit when it clearly doesn't?

For my heavy swimbaits. I was originally looking at the rt178 but saw on the brochure the rt188 held up to 8'6' rods.

Could have been a misprint on the brochure, on all the Ranger YouTube videos it states 8 foot rod storage. Either way if 8 foot 6 rod storage is a deal breaker then you better start looking at 21 ft. Glass boats.

Did you try all eight tubes?

My RT178 states "up to 8'0" rods" and I do have two that are 7'11" stored ... no issues.

Hummmmm..... I just checked the site and that also says 8'6" length as well. I will have to double check this weekend. I only have an 8 footer though. I will have to make an educated guess.

Do the rod tubes allow rods to run all the way to the tip of the bow or do they have a stop at the end?

There is no stop in the end. If you pull the recessed pedal tray out you can see where the tubes end.

Where does it say that? I only ask cause I thought I read 8'6 somewhere as well and I was suprised that the site read 8'.

Guess I never really looked myself. I have never seen a 8'6" rod much less thought about buying one. Biggest I have is a 7 footer and never really needed anything bigger. I have thought about a 7 1/2 crank bait rod but never really got serious about buying one.

Here is the brochure. I know a 7'6" will slide all the way in past the butt holder on the farthest setting and then come back to hold the butt. That is more than 6 inches.

My two 7'6" are collapsible. Maybe that is an option.
