Seen em all fail at one time or another. Deans, Pats Aurora ect ect. They've come a long way over the years but will still fail. A pocket full of quarters and 10 minutes at the car wash will cure travel grime and a hell of a lot cheaper than a glass repair. Maybe I'm old and set in my ways but I was taught by the best and oldest in the Champion biz. For the record I have a custom made Pats cover that came with my rig that is very nice and well made. I've towed with it once from the former owner home to mine and rarely use it unless stored outside, which is once in a blue moon. Your rigs, do what ya like, this is "Merica" after all.

I do not tow with cover unless I'm towing in a bad storm and will encounter snow and sand gravel etc on the road. What I have noticed is that the cover probably puts more stress and wear on your windshields than anywhere! I'll be leaving Ca for Or,Id,Wa soon and it won't be covered unless it looks like snow

It can definitely affect your windshields. I have one funny looking one and one new set in the attic because of that.

I bet Brian and Del could make one which would properly fit with windshields removed! In my case, single console, I bought some adjustible supports which are easily set up under the cover. You can adjust them to pretty much any height. I forget where I got mine, but BPS has them. Main catalog Item # 21-1654049

I picked this wrap up at Wal-Mart for my last long trip and it was easy to put on and take off and then I installed the cover.
This is the wrap for $20 and it last for several wraps. Pen+Gear 15 inches x 1000 feet Stretch Wrap, Clear

Just go all the way around it. Even the trailer. Why would you want the trailer to get dirty SMH. Don't forget to put them around the tires as well. Saves on tread. Only buy tires once. Hell just put it inside a moving van.

I store with a cover on the boat. When I go on a long trip I take the pedestals out and put on the shipping cover, still says www.championboats.com on it, powerpole covers and motor cover

Everytime I think I'm doing something simple someone has to try ruin it. Saran wrap??? I only put my Aurora travel cover on very tight with an upright pole so there is very little pressure on the windshield. Yea its a pain in the butt to get it all tight so it doesn't act like a parachute. The main reason for the cover is I feel somewhat safer in the motels when I have all my equipment inside.
Then a recent post stated most people are going back to the outboard stabilizer to the rear roller and not the Motormate type anymore.
    I give up.

I never pull mine with the cover on it. Its hard on the cover if it fits loose at all and doesnt help your mileage either.

I am having my boat shipped tomorrow. It will arrive Saturday afternoon.

The shipper we hired mentioned that unless a cover is custom fit and trailerable, it isn't worth the hassle. I read too many horror stories online about this. We will be ordering an Aurora cover next winter.

Shrink wrapping the boat seemed dependant on who is actually doing the shrink wrapping. Folks who just do winter shrink wrapping may not have the skills/material to prepare a boat for a 1200 mile tow.

We opted to not cover the boat. The transporter is going to pull the boat behind a box van. He believe it provides better protection from road grime and dings. We shall see.

Old post... but I figured since we were all jumping on the discussion......
