    2006 150 optimax

Any safe ways to get more H.P. from my optimax?
Any risky ways to get more H.P. from my optimax?
Where are the 200 H.P guys in 150 clothing at?

wouldn't it just be easier to sell that motor and get the motor you're really wanting??? You're talking about modifying a motor for what exactly?? racing? I don't get it Are you trying to exceed what the boat is rated for? Have you discussed this with your insurance company? If they find out later it was modified to exceed the boat's rating, they WILL deny your claim if you're ever involved in a incident.

You can't actually make a 150 into something else. Even the HEART of the engine (the cylinder block) is different.

You can, however, make sure that your 150 is operating at it's PRIME, with excellent compression- good (perhaps even upgraded TDR) Reeds, all settings correct, throttle actually reaching the WOT position, rails/injectors/direct injectors serviced and functioning at their peak performance, all maintenance items up to date, and then look at:

    -Prop selection or work
    -Setback/setup
    -Pad work

To this day.... I have yet to see a setup that "cannot be improved somehow"... if you're willing to spend the time, and the money to do so.

Prop and JP recommendations depend on what boat you have, your current set up and what you want to achieve.

Good idea to provide some basic info on your current setup:

    -Engine Serial Number
    -Boat Brand/Model
    -Any heavy accessories/equipment/extra batteries
-Prop info (Make/Model/Pitch and if available, Part Number)
    -Jackplate info (if any)
    -Engine Height (prop to pad)
-WOT: RPM's, GPS Speed, and Water Pressure

That will give us a good starting point.

    Prop~ mercury tempest plus # 48-825862-21P
    No jack plate
Motor bolted to transom 2nd hole down
W.O.T @ 5600 RPM on smart craft.( hot foot)
130 HRS run TIME on smart craft
    I think.water pressure is around 17 PSI @W.O.T
I just put a new water pump impeller in her...
My hopes is to gain more speed ..: )
I think she is sluggish for a 150 HP

Better recheck that serial number... serial numbers are formatted: Digit, Letter, Six Digits (example: 1B123456).

Your boat might benefit from 4-6" additional setback (jackplate)... and would likely be able to turn a 22-23P prop at that point, within recommended WOT RPM range.

If your water pressure is accurate... definitely room to move back- and up (with increase in prop pitch).
