Allergy relief?

Can anyone tell me what works for allergies? It seems like I have tried all of the over the counter stuff. Is there anything the Dr. can give me before I waste money on a copay?

I have heard if you eat 1 tbsp. LOCAL honey it will help alot. Not tried it myself

There are no RX antihistamines that are any more effective than OTCs, Claritin is a good choice if it works for you, many find it to be ineffective. Zytrec is a good once daily choice, but as already mentioned, may cause drowsiness in a few people. Allegra is a good non-drowsy choice.
Don't forget some of the old school ones. Chlorpheniramine (Coricidin HBP and 4 hour generics) is quite good, especially if you also see some itch associated with your allergies. It may cause slight drowsiness, dry eyes, and urinary hesitation, but most people tolerate it quite well.

The only way I survive is a Zyrtec at night and a Claritin in the morning, recommended by my ENT.

I've tried Zyrtec, Claritin, and many others. The only one I found that works for me is AllegraD. You'll prolly have to ask for it since it is usually kept behind the counter. In MS you cannot get it without a prescription. In TN, I can buy it but only once in a certain amount of time and I have to sign for it. Dam meth heads made it that way.

ask your doc to prescribe you some Flonase. I had pretty bad nasal allergies for 20 years or more .I tried the shots and about everything else.finally I went to a new doctor and he gave me the Flonase. Allergy symtoms gone!. Ive been taking it for 10 years now. I dont have to take very much anymore. Great stuff, for me anyway. Really improved the quality of my life.

+1 My bad, my post was only addressing oral meds. Flonase (or others) are a great option.

The only thing that works for me is Singulair. You could also to an allergy specialist and have a grid test done and get weekly shots for about 2-3 years. I had one done a month ago and should begin my shots in a week or two.

I took AllegraD for several years and it helped mine. I just started getting the allergy shots a few months ago and now I am taking regular Allegra a few times a week.

Neil Med sinus rinse morning and evening,,really helps and is a cheap non med way to help. I think after time you get immune to all the oral stuff. Flonase is good but seemed to dry me out

Flonase is the deal... but let it work for a couple weeks and then it does its thing.

Flonase works pretty good, I get a shot every year, its called Kennalog 3cc's and im good.

I use Allegra D and singular I start to take them a month ahead of time to get ahead. This has been a key for me the past several years. Waiting till symptoms appear and then trying to treat it was an uphill battle for me personally.

Go to the Dr and get a cortisone shot for immediate relief. It will last about 3 weeks usually.

Allergy season causes major head aches for me due to sinus swelling. I'm talking head aches that make it hard to be in the light. Per my doctors suggestion I will use Afrin nose spray for about 2 days along with otc drugs (Tylenol sinus works for me) and usually after 2-3 days of this I'm fine. Just have to be careful with Afrin because in some people it's very addictive.
