Let me explain myself a little better...Will they let me ship 4 inch PVC pipe 7 foot long??
Tackle Warehouse just sent me a new Lamiglas Swinbait rod in a very heavy fiber board tube that I just measured at 3" inside dia. I would thik it would be good for three rods anyhow. It came UPS and I'm going home tomoorow to pickup another one because I broke the Bride's rod! No Hunt not that ONE!!
USPS probably won't but either Fedex or UPS should... just pack them in snugly, because they won't be gentle with it.

Hopefully they will be more gentle than the TSA was on my last 2 trips...2 trips ----5 broken rods
UPS will for sure

Yes - I shipped an 8'1" 12lb plus 4" PVC tube to Arkansas via Fed Ex and back again with no problems. I would NOT go with USPS personally... Fed Ex has always been good to me and I've shipped more rods than most. UPS is good too. Much cheaper to ship both ways than to try to take your rods on the plane... Good luck

Ouch.
If you want to make sure that they won't get in, make the original tube a foot longer and glue the caps on - tap the rods to the bottom and sawzall the cap off at the top. Pack along a new cap, and reglue for the trip home. I'm sure Lou has room enough to bring a sawzall for you.
Fedex or UPS have calculators on rates and times if you go to their sites.
The guy at the post office said that all their oversize stuff, i.e. rods, are shipped by Fedex, to their location.

I shipped a 7'11" rod...total length was 97" in tube. Cost 40$ UPS...USPS will accept up to 109" i learned today. Not sure on insurance cost though.
Max Length for UPS is 108"
They will take bigger but will hit you with a Over maximum size charge.
Also any package where the longest length is over 60 inches they hit you with an Additional Handling charge.
Gotta figure out a way to pay all them drivers making 30 bucks an hour.
That is why UPS is usually the most expensive option.

I have shipped 6 inch 7'10" tube with ups so id say your safe.
USPS is all over the place with their pricing!!!!! I got a rod one day in a PVC tube from Alabama. Shipped it to me Priority Mail USPS...price on it was $19.00. 1 week later I use same tube to ship a rod to Florida and my post office was going to charge me $74...said it was oversize. I explained to the lady that a week earlier it was NOT oversized...she was't really interested.

Shocking that a USPS employee was not helpful.
