    90 mph 201 Stratos

Thinking of installing a Phase III Yamaha 250 hpdi on a 1997 Stratos 201? I know some year models were better then others?? If it possible? Thoughts or examples of your Stratos performance with a 200 plus hp, Please!

I have an 06 w a 225 HPDI... Generally a 70 mph boat, seen 73 and change a couple times ,but more times below 70 than above.
i need a phase kit to get it goin!

id be shocked of a 201 gets to 90... It's just not the boat for that...a 294 or 200 would be much easier.

ive been almost 80 in a 201, no prob w handling, great ride etc....but 90 is so much faster. It should still do what they do best, dry and reasonably smooth...as much as you can at that speed.

I don't think he is going to have a problem getting it to 90. The question is can the hull handle it?

I got a TR20 Triton to do it a couple of years ago and it went 70 mph with a stock 200 Yamaha before I did the Phase III kit with porting. I'm thinking of putting this motor on one.cowl2.jpg

I think you can do it again. I would just be afraid of that monster tearing the transom in two!

After the motor blows are you going to rebuild it with new parts or used parts like you typically do.

Wayne, it is possible. The 97's and 98's were light and good running boats. All composite as well.

I just acquired a 98 that I'll be repowering soon, so I'm interested in what you do as well.

The one I acquired is a standard deck too, so it should be even lighter by a few pounds.

I did rig one of these with a OX66 225 a few years ago and it would run mid 70's loaded. I saw 77 light, just me and 10 gallons of fuel, turning a 25 T1 on the limiter. Hope that helps.

Not for me. You would never touch my motor. I will have a professional do it.

    Here for the results.

The best my 201 ever did was 82 and that was running almost empty in cold weather with the L2 lowerunit and a 27 Tempest+.

Nate, I sent Wayne a PM. Hate to post my numbers on here, catch BS every time (law breaker, insurance and lawyers, gonna kill every one on the lake, etc). We've been faster than the video during break in testing when Mike was down. Best was a 30 Bravo I had for a while at 91.2, light load. Next was the 29 T1 at 89, but a bitch to drive. My actual rev limiter is 6225 rpm. You and I have been over 85 loaded to fish and full tank. My boat was re-rated to 300 hp.

Gonna sell the boat after the first of the year, just never get to use it. Cranked on the hose only since last time I fished with you guys.

My stock 201 with a light load and cool air will hit 80, and that is hitting over 6000 rpms. I am sure a jacked up yamee would not have trouble hitting 90.
Actually ran 82 with a tourney load one day but I did have the help from the current in the ms river...

Mid 90's 201's will run 68 to 70 loaded to fish with a stock 225. Those are real world base line numbers.Id love to see how one of your motors would improve those base numbers. The 294 is a sleeper like the 200 is id love to see what a yamzilla would make a 294 run.

I've driven Craig's boat before, and for a big boat, mid 80's was easy. I've also been in a 200 Pro at 92 mph. That was a HT Yammie also.

As to whether that mid to late 90's boat can handle it will depend on how it was taken care of. The newer ones handle it just fine.
