Fishing Wisconsin in the fall I am used to trimming all the way down to drain all the residual water out of the lower unit before leaving the launch. However, today While I was winterizing the boat and getting it ready for the deep freeze I went to trim the motor all the way down (after it had been sitting outside for about two weeks with the trim half up) and as soon as I trimmed all the way down gear case oil started FLOWING not dripping out of the prop hub almost as though I had pulled the vent screws. My question is how could this have happened and did I just break a prop seal or did I cause worse damage? Is it possible that a few rain events and some Freezing nights would be enough to do this?
