I've recently purchased 2 used units. An 1198 & 998 and the current software versions for both are 7.510...looks like the most up to date version for both is 7.670...Is there a version(s) between these that I need to update to first before jumping to the 7.670? What do I need to do to update?....create an account and then update? I bought an 8 GB SDHC card...will that work? Thanks, Mike

The latest version has all the previous versions, you cannot skip any.

To update, you should have registered your units on the Humminbird website to create an account that Humminbird puts the software for your units in as well as HumminbirdPC for your computer.

You download the software to a memory card, your units are different and have different software. You can put both on the same card. The files are .bin files.
    Yes a 8GB is plenty--1GB is plenty.

Click on the model number to open the download notes and link to the software.
After you have the software on the card, start the unit up FULLY in Simulator or Normal, do a RESTORE DEFAULTS, and put the card in one of the readers.
You will get two questions, answer the first one YES and the second one NO.

Wait for the update to load, the unit will restart when it is finished. Do a RESTORE DEFAULTS after that, and remove the card.

Make sure that power is not interrupted during that process

NO, USB cannot support a sonar unit. Use the memory card.

Quick question about humminbird pc software...spoke w/humminbird customer service, apparently the software is not compatable w/a Mac. Was wondering what the best/most affordable alternative (laptop) would be to support the humminbird pc software? Also, I'm not apposed to buying used. Thanks

I haven't done an update yet, and I understand the reasons for using the RESTORE DEFAULTS steps, but want to understand what to expect --- this implies I will have to re-set all my chosen color palettes and other previously chosen settings including the pre-set views on my 3 buttons. Is that correct?
