Released September 23, 2021

Software Description

PLEASE NOTE:

• On SOLIX G3 and APEX, software version 3.900 or greater must be installed prior to 4.020. No damage will occur if 3.900 or greater is not installed, but the update will not be successful.
• Once 4.020 is installed, the factory recovery will be updated to 4.020. You will not be able to recover back to previous software versions.
• The defaults will be restored when 4.020 is installed.

Affected Models:

• 411570-1 SOLIX 15 CHIRP MEGA SI+ G3
• 411570-1CHO SOLIX 15 CHIRP MEGA SI+ G3 CHO
• 411550-1 SOLIX 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ G3
• 411550-1CHO SOLIX 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ G3 CHO
• 411530-1 SOLIX 10 CHIRP MEGA SI+ G3
• 411530-1CHO SOLIX 10 CHIRP MEGA SI+ G3 CHO

Updated Features:
Support for MEGA Live Imaging™:

• Get must-watch detail and non-stop action. MEGA Live Imaging is a powerful sonar technology that will help you find and catch more fish. Connect to any SOLIX or APEX model and you'll see fish in real-time, allowing you to learn what makes the fish want to bite.
• With no gaps in sonar coverage and industry-leading MEGA Imaging clarity throughout the entire view, you’ll see more fish, in greater detail than ever before.
• Find where the action is. Mark and view waypoints right on your MEGA Live Imaging screen and return to the spot later.

Support for 30% / 70% split screen views:

• Vertical split-screen views can now be changed form a 50/50 split to a 30/70 split.
• This can be done with any application combination with the following rules:
• The Video In/Out pane is not supported.
• Instrument Views and the RADAR view only support 50/50 split.
• Side-Imaging, 360 Imaging, and MEGA Live must go into 50% and 70 % panes. They cannot go into 30% panes. This means that Chart, 2D, and DI are available for the 30% pane.

I updated all my 3 of my Helix units and I do not see any issues yet. It is SOOOO nice not having random red blobs all over the lake.

Thank goodness! Nothing better than updating your brand new units before the transducers are even wet and then finding out there's a mapping issue! Of course, shame on me for not doing my research first.

Warning!!!!

If you have a Mega Live, Humminbird updated the Mega Live installation instructions to say that you need to install the new Apex/Solix 4.070 or Helix 2.750 updates on the control head before updating the Mega Live to 1.170. I have seen the "which update comes first" question asked on BBC and Facebook and now we have an official answer from Humminbird. Following is the actual statement from Apex/Solix and Helix update sections of the Mega Live Accessory Software Update pages:

It appears that Humminbird has updated the installation instructions on the Mega Live Accessory update download page but not on the control head page itself. They now are saying that you need to update the control head(s) prior to updating the Mega Live itself.

I know this has already been a much discussed topic on the BBC as well as Facebook. Following is the Humminbird updated verbiage from the Apex/Solix and Helix versions of the download:

Apex/Solix:

Software Prerequisites

Personal computer with Internet access, a formatted 32GB or smaller SD memory card, and a USB Memory Card Reader.
In addition to this MEGA Live software update, users must install the latest version of control software for compatible HELIX, SOLIX or APEX models. Failure to install these new versions of software will cause issues with the MEGA Live sonar performance that will remain until all updates are performed.

In addition to this MEGA Live software update, users must first install the latest version of control software for compatible HELIX, SOLIX or APEX models. Failure to install the head unit software first can cause issues with the MEGA Live update not successfully processing or could cause sonar performance issues that will remain until all updates are performed successfully. The TargetLock features cannot be used without successful completion of these updates.

Helix:

Software Prerequisites

Personal computer with Internet access, a formatted 32GB or smaller SD memory card, and a USB Memory Card Reader.

I have g4 Si 8" and 10" is it necessary to update the mega if I plan to not use it? I'll just update to 2.750

Software Update - HELIX 10 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G4N v. 2.750

Released 07-06-2022
Software Description

Please Note:

• Note that it is recommended to install 2.750 on your HELIX unit first and then install 1.170 on your MEGA Live transducer. This is required to use the MEGA Live Imaging TargetLock accessory. (DOWNLOAD V 1.170)
• The defaults will be restored when 2.750 is installed.

IF you don't have a MEGA LIVE or do and don't use it, you have no use for downloading 1.170. It is software for the MEGA LIVE, not a display.

The basemap update was two years ago, unit software 2.280.

Firmware Update - MEGA Live Imaging v. 1.200 for HELIX

Released 1/31/2023
Software Description

Affected Models:

• 710304-1 – MEGA Live

Summary of features/issues that have been addressed in v1.200:

• Fixed a MEGA Live connection issue that could cause MEGA Live data to stop updating or for the MEGA Live wet switch to function incorrectly.
• Fixed an issue that could prevent MEGA Live from connecting to the Humminbird network.
• Improved interference noise rejection between various Humminbird sonar sources.
• Fixed an issue with MEGA Live image stabilization.

Firmware Update 1.200 (Latest)

• For the best image from MEGA Live in most water conditions use the default settings:

• Dynamic Contrast: Balanced
• Sensitivity*: 10
• Contrast**: 10

• If you are in shallow water or if you’re experiencing clutter on your screen try:

• Dynamic Contrast: High
• Sensitivity*: 10
• Contrast**: 10

• If you are in deeper water and are looking for increased bait tracking performance try:
• Dynamic Contrast: Low
• Sensitivity*: 10
• Contrast**: 10

*Sensitivity will decrease or increase the apparent signal strength of all of the returns on the screen. Always start at 10 and then increase or decrease as needed.
**Contrast will decrease or increase the separation in apparent signal strength between stronger and weaker returns. Lower contrast values will help when trying to track smaller baits or targets while Higher contrast values will help remove clutter from the screen.
