    nitro 290 sport

Hey guys, Have a buddy that just bought a 2011 Nitro 290 sport with a Merc 225 proxs. Looking for a little help with setup if anyone is familiar with this rig. The boat came with a 21P Tempest plus and has no Jackplate on it currently. Wondering if there is a specific prop out there that runs well on this boat, or if a jackplate is recommended? The boat is new to him, but the previous owner states that it will run about 58mph with 2 guys and a regular fishing load. Thanks for any info that you can give.

You might want to try posting under bass boat setups (I know this isn't a bass boat by definition), you'll probably get more views.

post in Fish&Ski area...that's what this is... I'm thinking the tempest is PROBABLY his best bet. He just needs to run it and see what max speed & rpm are. That's a heavy boat and without being too familiar with it I'm thinking turning a 21p with enough rpm to reach 58mph is a little too optimistic...at least not without a jackplate. I'm thinking maybe 53-54mph which means that motor might turn ~5,300-5,400...a jackplate might get him another ~300rpm or so and a couple mph. He just needs to run it and see.
