    Merc's parts site says that serial number is a 2.5L which would be covered in the forum below.

    Barney... The idea is to provide your serial number in your post, whenever you post a question about your engine.

    That would be a digit (1). Complete serial number would be 0A136972 (175 Mercury ELPTO 2.4L, Manufactured 1/18/85).
