    Performance Gains

    Hey guys -
I know we already have the "who has Hydro Tec parts on your motor" post, and I appreciate everyone who posted, but I was wondering if we could get some before and after numbers - speed before the kit, and speed after. A lot of guys just put what parts they have, but not how the boat performed after.

I realize not everyone will want to for different reasons, but I was thinking it would be helpful not only for us to have a good idea of how the kits work on different set-ups, but also for you guys too. If you are not comfortable putting your numbers up because you don't want people to know you have a modified motor, thats cool. I respect that. Maybe you can just email me or send an IM.

I appreciate anybody willing to cooperate.

    Re: Performance Gains (Mat_HT)

I got a 2005 20' stratos. 225 hpdi. 8" detwiler plate originally. best speed was around 71 with all my tackle and gear. but to be honest, I hadnt done much in the way of set up. just bought it and went fishing. I hear people say mid 70s loaded to fish, but I never saw it.
got the phase 3 kit, porting, 300 ecu, lightweight flywheel, lower unit mods, etc, everything i could get. also went to 10" plate. It ran 91 or 92 I think. I gained 20 mph.
Also got the new rev limiter with the higher ecu on its way, so I think that will help me with propping the boat.
Thats the only problem I have had is propping the boat. It either jumps out of the hole and is on the limiter or it comes out of the hole slow, but runs good on top end. Think a 27-29 prop with the higher ecu will fix that though.
future plans include getting C and O to do some work on the hull to smooth it out and see if I can gain more. and Im going to try going to 12" setback and run some smaller props since I will have the higher rev limiter. Hopefully it will gain a mph or two.

    Re: Performance Gains (jim4596)

I have run a ton of props.
    Bravos, TXPs, Trophy's, Tempests, Hydromotive.
Fastest so far is a 31 hydromotive with full tackle
Fastest light is a 31 TXP.
Best all around prop is a 30 Bravo.

What did the mods do to your fuel usage and dependability?

    2008 Skeeter 20 I Class with Series 2 250 HPDI. Stock set up with stock 25 T1, 5800 RPM @ 71.4 MPH.

Phase 3 kit and light weight flywheel. Now turning a 27T1 Mark turned on the limiter @ 82.4 so far. We need more prop. Fuel mileage is much better too.
Still playing with set ups and props.

    Re: Performance Gains (Jason Hale)

my fuel usage went up, but not significantly. not sure if thats due to hydrotec or me just keeping my foot in it all the time. when im out there im either running WOT or im idling. when u run mid range, it doesnt use much fuel, but i cant seem to do that.

no problems with dependability. idles a little rougher, something due to having higher compression and solid motor mounts I assume.

    Re: (BigCranks)

At first it went up but if I dont run full throttle but run in the mid 70's its actually better just back off the throttle 25% and it is great for a carb mota.
dependibility seems so far good. Super easy start up when cold guess the bigger jetting helps that. It does burn more oil I add a little oil to the gas for a little extra protection.

I have a 2009 zx225 with a 2008 225 HPDI with a 26 pitch fury. Running 76 on gps. What type of performance could I expect by putting the light weight flywheel, high performance lower unit and the phase 2 or 3 on it?

    Re: Performance Gains (Mat_HT)

Can't give any before 'cause I bought mine new with the Phase 3. '09 Stratos 201 Evolution w/300 HPDI phase 3. Spacer and big bore kit with modded reed box. All fishing gear aboard, 1/2 tank fuel turning a 3 blade 28 to the 6150 limiter at 86.2. Got a 29 inch prop being built, more to come. zoom-zoom

Motor acts like a stock motor, no idle or starting issues, no bad habits at all. Really amazing torque at any speed.

    Re: Performance Gains (Viper250mp)

    2001 Skeeter ZX225 225OX66. Before, 25T1 at 6K 72mph.

After a phase III, lightwiehgt flywheel, profiled hpdi lower unit 1.75 ratio

    Croxton 25T1 76.8mph@6000rpm
    Croxton 27T1 81.2mph@5900rpm

All with normal fishing load and around 1/2 tank gas. Very little testing with the phase III

    Still messin with the plate.

    Re: Performance Gains (Mat_HT)

    2008 Stratos 200 XL
    225 HPDI Series 2
    8" JP

Before Mods - 26" B&B'd TXP set 1.5" under pad
    78.3 @ 5825 RPM's - Holeshot was very good with this setup

    Phase II kit installed -

    27" B&B'd TXP set 1.25" under pad
    82.4 @ 6150 RPM's - Holeshot is RIGHT NOW

    29 B&B'd T1 set 1.125" under pad
84.0 @5700 RPM's- Holeshot is still very fast

    Update - Added lightweight flywheel
    Same 29 T1 at 1.125" under pad
85.2 @5850 RPM's- awsome holeshot and midrange improvement.

Those numbers are in 45deg air, mid 40's water temp, very little wind or current, 20 gal of fuel, normal fishing load, empty livewells.

    My data

After ECU and arm upgrade w/c reeds on the 2006 HDPI I did a best 74.6gps at 5,950 with a 27 TXP...
before, with a somewhat lighter load...71 with 25T1...essentially moving from a 25 pitch to a 27 pitch (usually?) gives you 3mph if the prop is also tuned...at least that is my guess from experience.

Keep in mind my 2000 Yammy 200 only went to 74.4 best run at 5,700 after HT heads, tuner and reeds...with the same ZX 200 hull....in both situations the prop went from a 25 to a 27.

    hope that helps.

    Re: My data (reelman)

I had Hydro-tec to install their head, tuner, and reeds, plus rejet the carbs on my 90 hp Yamaha a couple of months ago.The speed increase was not the only thing it did for my little rig.It took all the cold naturedness out of it,it runs smoother, and it accelerates better as well.I am sure if it was a little leaner the top end would pick up a small amount, but the plugs sure look a lot better than when it was stock.Wayne had 2 of his techs on it the morning i took it to them, and was done a little after lunch while i waited. They did a very professional job on it,and i didn't have ANY problems with anything not hooked up or working properly. Here is the best my boat ran on GPS before (last winter when cold, and no water in livewell), And then what it ran yesterday with livewells full.I think i will end up when it's a little colder with about 2 mph increase with everything else the same. Thank's Wayne for the awesome service, and please let John know how it runs.

After, but still not as cold, and with livewells full.

    The boat.

    Re: Performance Gains (Mat_HT)

What will a Phase II do for a 2006 HPDI 250 on a X21TS Xpress? What is the cost of the kit and what all come with it? How much hp gain with kit and what grade of gas (86)? Also who install them around Clanton, Al or would it be best to take it to Hyper Tech in MO?

One other thing how much more hp will a light weight Fly wheel add?

A lot of question but thanking about doing it to my 250.
