    - Rule #1 - READ THIS FIRST Before asking motor questions

To better help answer service related questions,PLEASE at least give the complete model number of the outboard in question, and the serial number. That way the experts and myself, just a specialist, can give you the correct info the first time.

Outboards may be of a different year than the boat and things change constantly in this business, sometimes even during the year of production. That is why the whole model number is so important, it tells if there is a mid-year change that could be essential in answering a technical inquiry. Also tell us about your boat, prop, top rpm, your dealer and your part of the country, especially if this is your first post here.

It would also be advisable to mention to us if any boat, wiring, or engine work was perfomed before the problem cropped up, and what exactly was done and by whom. In addition, tell us the last time the item worked correctly.

If you post any picture images, please make sure that they are the standard 800 by 600 pixels in size. Larger images disrupt the page formatting and that affects readers with smaller computer monitors. Oversize images may be deleted if they do not comply with the 800 X 600 size limitations.

Please don't title your post with the word HELP, title it according to the subject matter, such as "1999 225 Johnson hard to start". You will get more and better answers that way.

If you don't post the model number, you may be subject to taunts, laughter, shunning, ridicule, and generally being made fun of. You have been warned!

    Thread hijacking

the act of trying to steer a web forum discussion thread off topic by discussing a subject entirely unrelated to the original subject at hand. This would also include making references to the original poster, or even to OTHER posters, that have nothing to do with the subject at hand.

Obvious posts that attempt to hijack a thread may be deleted without comment by a forum moderator

    Dormant Threads

If you are going to comment on a thread, check the date first as many could be years old and the information may be out of date or the original poster long gone. If a thread is more than 6 months old, consider it dead.

Dormant threads should be treated like library books, you can use them for reference but please do not write in them. Start a new thread if you have something constructive to share with our members.

Posts will be deleted at the moderators' discretion.
