    FUEL pump/choke/solenoid issues. Vindicator 225

    Guys,

I don't know what it is called. It is the part with something like a tire valve stem inflator [RED] on it nex to the VRO. Manual choke maybe ?

Well i have my Vindicator rebuilt and now it hard starts in one position but drives great, and in the other it starts perfect but will run really rich.

Please advise. Incorrectly reassembled hoses or something ?

    Thanks

That is the shrader valve, normal position is with the point facing down. You should have 2 small hoses, to the intakes and one from the fuel manifold.

Sounds like you're talking about the primer solenoid. The red lever should be parallel to the body of the pump. You will feel it click into the detent position. If the level is not parallel to the pump body you are priming the motor as you run explaining the rich condition.

My 200 Venon likes LOTS of prime to start. I usually hit the key switch 6-8 times as I am being backed in. Once she fires and warms up it starts quicker than you can let go of the key.

My question is, which position does it have to be in. ??? Pointing up or pointing down and before the rebuild I did not have to take off the motor cover to put in one position to start and the next then to run.

So what have I done wrong ?

    Thanks

The position it runs rich in is the wrong one. Run the engine with the lever parallel to the primer body.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN PARALLEL TO BODY ? iN THE SAME PLANE AS THE BOAT (HORIZONTAL) OR vertical WHERE IT RUNS GOOD ?

No need to yell. Vertical or horizontal ain't the best way to describe this. If your pump is mounted differently then my horizontal could be your vertical. Move the red lever through it's entire range of motion. At one end, you will feel the level click into place. That is the normal operating position. The lever should point along the body of the pump, parallel to the pump body. Or as rudetech says, where it is not running rich.

Another way of putting it is to turn the lever in a clockwise direction until it stops.

    Thanks Seahorse.,,,,

Sorry all if I appeared rude.

Seahorse, if in this position the engine runs well but hard starts, what is the cure/fix. That is my real question. i know to run it in the position it runs well and not the rich position. i need to know how to fix the problem.

    Thanks

The black thing-a-ma-jiggy (that's a technical term) with the red lever and the purple/white wire is the starting primer assembly. It is just an electric valve that allows extra fuel to to be injected into the intake manifold when you push the key in. It only works when there is fuel pressure in the system from either squeezing the primer ball or from the fuel pump while the motor is cranking or running, and while the key is in the ON or START position.

Turn you key to ON, and push in, you should hear the primer click each time you activate it. If not, troubleshoot for a bad connection, wire, key switch or primer assy.

To test the operation, set the motor to around 1000-1500 rpm and push the key swich in and hold it. The motor should start to blubber and slow down as the extra fuel in injected.

If neither test works, it's time for you to get your hands dirty and start troubleshooting, or spending the bucks to have a QUALIFIED tech check things out for you.

    Either way, good luck.

    Thanks
    Seahorse,
My first option is ALWAYS to go qualified tec , BUT, here in South America with a corrupt government and high crime rate, all the qualified outboard tecs have left to go work in safer invironments in the islands etc.... leaving me to either sell and forget boating OR try with what i've got.

    Thanks
